Default How many of us XJ12's are left?

So not much traffic on the X305 site in the last year so it got me wondering, how many are left on the road? They built 249 XJ12's in 1996. How many were built in 1995? How many Double six's in 95, 96? Is 1996 the last year for the Daimlers or were some produced in 1997? How many miles are on your clock? Mine range from 35,000 to 106,000 miles.

The production of the X305 started in September or October 1994
and ended on 17 April 1997, when the very last X305 came off the
Browns Lane production line and became a museum exhibit.

The production numbers:
XJ12 SWB: 564
XJ12 LWB: 535
Sovereign XJ12 SWB: 673
Sovereign XJ12 LWB: 56
Daimler Double Six SWB: 1,007
Daimler Double Six LWB: 1,230
Daimler Century Double Six: 100
Total: 4,165

How many of these are left? An interesting question, but impossible to answer.

The numbers for individual years are not known to me.

My mileage range is from 138,000 km to 198,000 km.

The 249 XJ12's for the 96's comes from Jaguar Heritage and they indicated that 180-ish made it to North America, they were unable to give an exact figure. Not that it matters. At the time 11 years ago I did not inquire any further as I was only interested in 96's.

basco1987 Ulm Germany, it is fascinating to hear from people all over the world with the same passion for Jags. How's the weather this time of the year? We are entering fall, 60's during the day and 40's during the evenings (Fahrenheit). Any idea what other markets X305's were sent to? Are yours right or left hand drive?

Yeah, it's a varied hobby, beautyful cars with superb motors, great to drive with, manageable technics (but sometimes to become desperate), getting in touch with interesting people even in other continents...

Summer is over, the days become shorter, the weather becomes foggy and cloudy and the temperature drops (45 in the morning, 60-70 in the daytime, maybe 75 when the sun comes out); in other words: same here. I will deregister my cats end of the month - time for winter sleep.

My cars are all LHD (most of the European countries have right-hand traffic, except of the UK, Ireland, Isle of Man, Guernsey, Jersey, Malta and Cyprus).

Besides the UK, the most important European markets for the X305 and it's ancestors were Germany, Switzerland and Austria. And I gues that a remarkable number was exported to Japan.

...well if you keep buying them all, I'd say there are very few left on the road in North America!! *laugh*

Don't know if I'll ever get one, but I've got a soft spot for an X305 and do try to keep an eye out for one.

Fortunately my shed is full. Although I know where there is another with 62,000 miles sitting in a salvage yard. Complete car just needs right front fender, drivers door and drivers side front suspension. More than I care to chew right now but would make a nice project or parts car. I suspect after 20 years we are approaching half...ish are no longer on the road. Five more years will weed out all the $3500.00 XJ12's out there and the market will start going back the other way for value.

I just bought a 96 with 114,000 on yesterday in Orlando, Fl. Paint is bad, leather was/is so dirty, I used a whole bottle of cleaner just for front passenger seat. She has sat for a year, and shows half tank on gas gauge but wonder if that might be water or a mix. Put battery in and some electrics come on, dash dials, electric seats, windows, but no central locking, no lights, no crank. Need to get radio code to see if it works.
Apparently had tranny rebuild and new electric cooling fans just before owner left country for a year. She just came back for a while, and took $1500 for the car as is.
It has sat in the open for the last year, but thankfully do not see any chewed up wires under the hood. I notice when I turn key in ignition there are 10 distinct beeps form under the dash, I think that is something to do with alarm, but not sure. Plan is to clean up leather, drivers seat has a couple of tears, get her running and then paint job. Need to get hood emblem, someone stole the leaping cat.
Thankfully I have a contact for techs wiring diagrams etc and I should be getting the full wiring diagrams, relay and sensor positions etc as issued to the dealer techs on Tuesday or Wednesday. Sorry 1 of 19, one more that should hopefully be going back on the road in its former glory. Don't think one more will affect long term values. I just hate to break Jags unless they really are beyond repair.

Default Hate to revive old thread, but...

My father in law has a 1996 XJ12 thats has 100k miles with all original parts. He just retired and is running into financial difficulties and is looking to sell. What is a fair asking price for the XJ12?

Exceptional condition with verifiable repair history $5,000.00 the mileage is not helping. Average condition but in good running order $2,500.00. Any rust at all $1,000.00. Wish I had better news. Photo's?

Revive it, keeps me alive longer. LOL. I just saw one on Ebay with less than 100k miles, don't know what physical condition was from actually seeing but said to be very good. Reserve price if I recall correctly was $14,500. I don't know what it finally sold for.

Hi 1of19, how you doing. I have hardly been on, bought a foreclosure and between work and updating it not much time left. I did however in the midst of it all but a 2000 Mustang Convertible, v6 3.8 litre engine. Resprayed of course, Florida sun kills paint, but interior like new.
Thanks for helping Alex out with pricing.

I need to get me a convertible some day. Been looking/lusting for an x100 with a rag top. Too many irons in the fire at the moment though. Been staying under the radar as of late. Good to hear from you.

Wondering if you can help me with a question about an XJ12. Would a 96 car with VIN SAJMX............ imply one on these low numbers 1 in 19 XJ12's? Car is badged as a Vanden Plas and is LWB. Thanks for any info.

On my cell so not sure. A call to Jaguar Heritage will confirm one way or another. The 19 are XJ12 Sovereigns lwb but I don't know if any of them would have been badged VDP. My production sheet for XJ's splits out VDP's with a 4.0 motor '94 thru '97, but nothing on the 6.0 VDP's. Jaguar Heritage is extremely helpful with inquiries.

Not that this should be taken as the final word by any means but I'm pretty darn sure that none of the *USA* market X300 V12s were badged "Vanden Plas". That name was reserved for the 6 cylinder cars.

Weren't they simply badged "XJ12" ?

Cheers

I just purchased a 1995 with a few minor electrical gemelins. No radio, No gas guage, no speed-o. Car drives phenomenal, a few clunks here and there though. Engine and transmission are very smooth and responsive, especially in sport mode. So what to do with this 600$ petrol hoovering toy... Since it's cosmetically clapped out too... perhaps it should give up its engine for an XJ12C with no engine that I've got in my garage. Well thats the plan, and the seller offered the car at that price on CL and agreed to sell it to me for the project.

I really have to say the engine and transmission are so great together. The rest of the driving experience is Lexus like and numb and not rewarding for me.

Thanks for the info. Wouldn't an XJ12 have the same interior as the VDP anyway for 96? How can one tell a VDP from a rebadged/grilled/boot trimmed fake?
