X300 V12 Won't start (Yep, another one)
Hi,
Hope everyone had a great Christmas.
Posting this on behalf of my Dad who owns a 1995 X300 V12 Daimler.
Just recently the fuel pumps stopped working and the car would turn over but wouldn't start. It was confirmed by a local dealer but as they wanted £900 to do the job we had to do it ourselves.
Between myself and my Dad we spent a few weeks replacing the pumps and gently removing the tank, cables, amp, cd player and all the other bits and pieces that go with it.
Finally this morning he managed to get the fuel lines into the stuffer pins, connected all the related cables, and tried to start the car.
This is where the problems start. The battery is fine (we kept it on a maintenance charger). When you turn on the ignition the instruments come on but there is no value for battery voltage. The car locks and unlocks fine.
The safety switch in the J gate is locked on, you can't move it even with your foot on the brake.
The fuel pumps do start (you can briefly hear them).
The headlights do not light up.
Could this be the immobilizer for some reason? It's the main set of keys as well.
The hifi is not hooked up yet, the car is jacked up at the back and the trim panelling in the boot is not in place, otherwise the car is set up as it was.
If anyone might be able to give some hints on this I would be grateful.
There are two non-connected plugs by the battery, one is a small single spade connector the other is a Jaguar looking plug but the connections on it are unusual which makes me think it's diagnosis of some kind.
I will admit there is this horrible feeling I have that the garage was wrong and it's not the pumps but the immobilizer was failing!
Many thanks.
