07 Super V8 - Park Brake Fault

Well I just got an 07 Super V8 with 56k miles. Still have to have it shipped but the dealer told me that there is a light on in the dash that says Park Brake Fault... but that the car runs and drives great. .. what would the fix for this be? How spendy...... I think I got a great deal on the car $17,500 thoughts?

Mine ended up needing a new parking brake actuator' I think 300 to repair. Check your fuses and brake module in the trunk first

Here's what a UK supplier charges, plus a pic of what you get.

JustJagsUK.com - Jaguar S-Type, X150, X350, XF Electronic Park Brake Handbrake Mechanism (C2Z3205)=

Failure of these things is not all that common, but does occur from time to time. The handbrake is automatically applied when the car is in Park and the ignition key is withdrawn, at least that is my understanding, so it does get used even if the owner never raises the lever.

Hi anatwick,

Welcome to the forum! It sounds like you got a beautiful, low-mileage car.

The Park Brake Fault can be caused by a number of things and will have to be diagnosed. If the park brake is stuck in the OFF position, the good news is that you can drive the car without problems, but you'll have to live with the Park Brake Fault warning on the dash. I'm living with that right now on our '04 while I try to sort out the cause.

If the park brake is stuck in the ON position, on the other hand, some fairly major work may be required. Search this forum for more information on that issue.

The automatic application of the Electronic Park Brake (EPB) can be disabled with the dealer-level software-based diagnostic system, so you may just need to budget to have the delaer resolve the fault and then set the EPB so that it does not automatically apply when you put the car in Park and shut off the engine.

Please keep us informed when you know more.

Cheers,

Don

Park Brake fault

The park brake fault light came on on my car today. It stayed on for a while then when I parked the parking brake came on like normal. When I started the car again not Bake light falt. I'm also having problems with the shifter not going out of park from time to time. Sometimes it works fine then some times it does not want to come out of park. I can play with it for a few minutes or turn the car off then back on and it will shift properly. I posted the shifting problem on the thread for that but have not seen any response. Just wondering if the two could be related. I have a 2006 XJ VDP

Thanks

Have you noticed if you've suffered from these issues more when its wet, raining, after a car wash etc by any chance??

No it does not make any difference weather it is wet outside or after a car wash.
