Default 2004 XJ8 boot doesn't close properly-help

After searching the threads, I think I have a slightly different problem. This morning I probably damaged something in the BOOT by over loading it. When I went to close the BOOT it wouldn't latch properly, I tried moving things around and was able to get it to close, but not completely. When I try to open it with the FOB or button inside nothing happens. There is no sound from the motor that I used to hear when opening. It is not completely closed, shows a BOOT open message and I cannot activate the central locking. Pressing the remote fob to lock the doors, etc. results in two small beeps. I am unable to open the BOOT by pushing the Leaper on the BOOT. I can open the BOOT with the key.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

A simply fix might be the fuse, not sure which one through!

Hi Billsblue73

Did you find the problem and if so, how was it solved?

I have the same problem after "overloading" the boot this morning.

Would be most grateful if I could find a solution before trying out the expensive dealer repair route.

Sounds like the boot latch motor needs repair or replacement-they are available used.

I too have had this problem by overloading the boot (I carry a lot of crap around), I got around it by leaning on the lid quite heavily to get it to close properly, then opened it with the fob and never overloaded it again!
