Default 2004 XJ8 rear suspension

So after spending a few hours removing, cleaning and replacing my washer reservoir, I took a look at my rear suspension. All of the ball joints (control arm and torsion bar) have split covers on them but I can detect no undue movement in the joints themselves. Can anyone tell me if this is a common occurrence and can I get away with replacing the rubber/poly ball joint covers rather than rebuilding everything? I don't have any strange movement or sounds from the rear of the car though I did find out my front tires are 9 years old and rear tires are 4 years old (new set of Hancooks imminent)

With no clunks and no undue wear on the tyres I would not rebuild all the joints.

The quality of the rubber used on this car is definately inferior to the 'old days'.

The rubber used in all the Jaguars I've owned has been terrible. Evidently the Brits have an aversion to adding neoprene or other rubber enhancing products. They think just because they own most of the rubber plantations on the planet that their rubber is good as is, not.
