Mine used to squeak, but doesnt now. I think I may be getting deafer ! My noise was all in the steering binnacle, like rubber rubbing against a surface or suchlike.

I added the additive from Jaguar and followed the instructions, including measuring oil temp. the noise was still there, so i repeated the heating process and the noise was still there, drove it next night and it has all but dissappeared, a note on mine was it was worse when the fluid had warmed up, i don't think it has gone completely, if it is the pinion seal i wander how difficult it is to replace, and if that will cure it?

After adding the additive the noise does not go away instantly.
It takes time for it to wear in so to speak.
in a week or two you will realize its gone..

What Jaguar do you have? I have an XJ8 2004 . I need to do the same .

where did you get the Fluid ?

The OEM Mobil 1 ATF 320 is nowhere to be found. Is there any other one I can use /

I called the dealer and they told me that for my 2004 xj8 the fluid to use for the Power Steering is Mobil 1 ATF 320 but I am trying to find out if the dexron III can be used

Jaguar have a part number for an additive to add to the power steering fluid as they are aware of the squeaking issue. You just remove some of the existing fluid in the reservoir and add in the additive. Then you run the car and get the steering fluid at temperature and get the fluid fully through the system by turning the steering from full lock to full lock a few times. I did this on mine and the squeak took about a week to fully disappear. I did this nearly a year ago and it's been completely silent ever since. I'll try to dig out the additive part number.

This is the jaguar part number for the PAS Fluid Additive that I used to stop the steering wheel squeak in my X350. C2S48887. Your jaguar dealer should be able to get this.

I had the same problem with my wife's 04 XJ8. The special fluid added to the power steering did work after I cranked the wheel all the way to the left without putting a lot of pressure on it. Then crank it all the way to the right and hold it there while increasing the engine RPM. Do this a few times to the left and right. Try not to put a lot of pressure left or right. Just gently hold the wheel to its limit both ways while increasing the rpm some. A jag specialist gave me this info and it did work. Hope this helps. Make sure you don't crank the wheel hard at its limit while increasing the RPM. It could blow your power steering pump.

I will be ordering up some of the additive, currently $27 on Amazon, as our new to us 2004 XJ8 makes a quiet, but noticeable noise on turning the wheel.

Initially thought it was the clockspring or something rubbing, so swapped it with the one on the parts car that had been quiet and the noise is still there.

There are related issues as well - horn only works if you press the top of the airbag cover, not the bottom, and the lights come on once the key gets to position II no matter what the light switch is set to.

Swapped the light switch over too, but no change there either.

Noticeable was that while both 2004 models, one has two rings on the wheel that contact two points on a switch attached to the bottom of the clockspring. Think this is horn related, luckily both clocksprings had the mountings to take this switch assembly.

This is not a steering column, not a rubber seal, or a power steering pump! The steering rack squeaks. In the place where the steering column shaft joins. I went through this. Lubricated everything, the column, the seals, everything was useless. The issue was resolved by replacing the steering rack.

Did you try the recommended Jaguar PS additive first?
Seems to work most of the time.
The part number was posted up thread.
