2004 XJR Front Control Arm & Oil Pan Gasket Replacement
Dear guys,
Thanks for accepting me. I'm new in the forum and I've recently bought a used 2004 XJR. It's a fantastic car and one of my dream cars.
The car ran great until recently I hear rattling noise from the front left wheel, it gets worse over time and now seems unbearable to a point i'm worry the wheel is going to come off.
I had the car checked and found the bushes is completely broken and cracked.
It looks like this is common thing for most owners, may I know where you guys buy the parts?
I see some DIY and replacing the bushes with hot water. I'd appreciate if you guys can show me the relevant threads and places to buy the parts?
Here's where I found the parts mostly from Partsgeek.com
Bushes:
04 2004 Jaguar XJR Control Arm Bushing - Suspension - Beck Arnley, Lemfoerder, Front Lower Inner Rearward, Front Lower Outer - PartsGeek
Control Arm:
04 2004 Jaguar XJR Control Arm - Suspension - Genuine, MTC, Front Left Lower Rearward, Front Lower Forward, Front Right Lower Rearward - PartsGeek
Before I go spend the $1000+ on those control arm, i'd really want to give it a try and just replace the bushes first.
Here's my existing control arm bush condition.
Here's my problem with the Oil Leak from the oil pan.
I woke up start my car and the oil literally spray out from the oil pan. It's very scary I thought my engine blew.
I'm ordering the Gasket and not sure if this is correct, also the oil filter, theres long and short ones. Which one is correct?
Oil Filter:
04 2004 Jaguar XJR Oil Filter - Engine Mechanical - Beck Arnley, Bosch, Cooper, Denso, Fram, Hastings, K&N, Mahle, Mann, Pronto, WIX - PartsGeek
Gasket:
04 2004 Jaguar XJR Oil Pan Gasket - Engine Mechanical - Genuine, Victor Reinz, Lower - PartsGeek

Hi Charles,
Welcome to the Jaguar Forums! It's great to have you with us.
I just recently replaced the oil pan gasket on our '04 XJR and it's a relatively easy job, but be prepared for one or more of the original screws to break when you try to torque them to spec (12 Nm I think) after reinstalling the pan. The screws are flange-head M6X1.0 pitch and 20mm long. I would recommend purchasing all new class 10.9 screws along with the new gasket. My local True Value hardware store didn't have enough of the screws in stock, so I ordered a bag of 50 from McMaster-Carr:

If you are in the U.S., I would be happy to mail you enough of my extra screws to do your pan. Just send me your address via private message (please do not post it to the public forum).
The original washers will not fit the new screws, but standard #12 size washers will fit, so you can get those at any local hardware or home store.
Regarding the suspension bushings, Lemfoerder is the original equipment manufacturer (OEM), so you can trust their quality, but there are less-expensive options for some of the bushings. Check with our forum sponsors who are Jaguar parts specialists, like Coventry West, SNG Barratt and Jagbits, and you can also compare prices at RockAuto.com and carpartsdiscount.com.
For parts only available through Jaguar, try jaguarmerriamparts.com, gaudinjaguarparts.com, and jaguarpartsinternational.com.
Replacing the bushings requires a means of pressing out the old one and pressing in the new one under considerable force. A hydraulic press is best, but some bushings can be pressed with a pair of large sockets, one that fits the outer metal ring of the bush, and one that is large enough for the bush to be pressed into, along with a long, high-grade bolt, one or more heavy washers and a nut to fit the bolt. I believe there are quite a few photos of the bushing replacement in the forum for the S-Type, which has a very similar suspension to the X350. Let us know if you aren't able to find the information and we'll try to help.
Regarding the oil filters, the current Jaguar part is short-bodied (part number C2C41611). Mann has been a long-term OEM to Jaguar, so you can't go wrong with their filter for the X350, part number W 713/29. I also like the Wix filter, 51228. Both the Mann and Wix are long-bodied with anti-drain-back valves and bypass valves. But any of the filters from the major brands will be fine.
And since we're a friendly group, please visit the https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/n...-intro-must-5/ and post an introduction so we can learn something about you and your Jaguar and give you a proper welcome.
Cheers,
Don

I actually just replaced my oil pan gasket on Friday. This is the one I used, which was recommended on a different thread:
I can confirm that it fit perfectly and there are no more leaks.

Just for the record, Mobil 1 filters are made by Champion Laboratories, as are filters branded K&N, Royal Purple, Deutsch, STP, Walmart and some ACDelco and Bosch (and Motorcraft in the past):
Champion Laboratories Inc.
Champion Laboratories Inc. - Mobil Branded Filter Limited Warranty
Champion Laboratories Inc. - Royal Purple Oil Filters
K&N Champion Oil Filters
Champion Labs is now a division of UCI-Fram:

Champion Labs says it's moving 120 jobs from Albion, Ill., to northeast Kentucky
Here are some interesting oil filter dissections and analyses:

According to the review by Russ Knize at the Mini Mopar site (last updated 2008), the Mobil 1 filters are not just basic Champion filters but are more advanced, premium filters.
Cheers,

As far as I've been able to tell, the Jaguar filters are made by the German company Mann, a long-time Jaguar OEM. Mann makes very good filters with both bypass and anti-drain-back valves, but the Mobil 1 filters are probably every bit as good and possibly better (if you can believe their marketing hype and high prices).
Cheers,
Don
