Default 2004 xjr key fob

I have been directed to places on ebay where I can get used key fobs. I managed to get a key with a transponder cut at Schwenks key shop in Santa Clara,Ca. for $125. It starts the card and unlocks, which is great for a back up key. Having a fob is handy for entry though,so I am trying to solve that problem.

I took my only fob and key combo to the dealer and the parts guy gave me a part # of C2C35283. I can't seem to find on line where any such numbers show up. Is there a cross reference or did the dealer parts guy give me a bum number? He said it would probably cost about $150 to get it programmed and only a dealer can do that.

So two questions- What is the correct part # or a place I can find the proper references?

Second question- is the dealer the only place that can program these?

Finding used for under $50 is fine but if it's another $150....I might wait. Thanks

You have two options outside of the dealer.

First, a good independent Jaguar specialist will have invested in the necessary software tools do it for you. I highly recommend Rick at Jaguar Purrformance Center in Los Gatos, which is just over the hill for you. Great guy, and if you need someone to look after your car he's honest and knows these cars well.

Second, you can invest in the software tools yourself, which with an '04 you might want to consider. Search the site for "cloned dealer scan tool" for a long thread of the do and don't, and your options. For the price of the dealer doing one key fob, you can have the ability to do it yourself plus have the whole diagnostic tool at your fingertips.

If you have a new key cut and it starts the car you now need the "fob" part with the buttons. You can program this yourself by following the instruction in this forum link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...-2005-a-34092/

I dont know the part number but you can buy one on ebay. Here is an example

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought you had to have TWO working key fobs for the manual programming process to work. If you only have one or none, you need IDS/SDD software.

For the PATS security module, to start the car, you need 2 keys to diy. Giro says he can start the car with his second key but hasn't programmed the buttons on the fob. You only need one key to program the fob buttons as described in the link. I can confirm this worked on my 2004 XJR.
