Default 2004 XJR - Low beam HID flickers and dies

When the lights turn on (either auto or manually, day or night), the right hand side HID will flicker for about 30 seconds and then die. It started yesterday and it is consistent.
Is this an indication of a bad ballast or bulb? My gut feeling tells me is ballast. Never messed with the light circuitry during my 10 year ownership of the car.
I do have a 2007 XJR parts car laying around. Would the ballasts be compatible?
I got to clear some other minor projects before tackling this - in the research phase now...

Thanks!

Ok, it was my first time removing the bumper cover. The instructions in the manual are decent (Section 76.22.78 in volume 5) but the tricky part for me was unhooking the bumper from the fenders. They did not respond to a gentle and a not so gentle nudge. I put some WD40 to lube things up and then I started to unhook the bumper from the fender using a trim tool and then it just came out. If you do not have two folks, make sure you support one side before going to the other side.

The light bulbs are D1S Osram Xenarc. I believe they are the original bulbs. I switch the bulbs and I confirmed that it is the bulb that is defective.

I see that I can pick up a pair at Amazon for $29.99 (D1S) which seems cheap and with high reviews.

Any recommendation on sourcing these light bulbs and what brand are better or best one out there?

Thanks.

I had to have my ballast replaced and if I recall it was about $600 or thereabouts from my independent garage. Hope yours are bulb only.
