Default 2005 XJ VDP With engine coolant temp sensor help needed

Hi everyone excited to find this group! I am the owner of a 2005 XJ VDP in 100K miles and she is amazing. However……. I am getting a coolant temp sensor error, intermittently mostly pops when driving on freeway and it will put car in limp mode. Let me start with the car is not hot however the gage goes full hot and you can pull over turn key off remove key reinsert key start and she will be fine again and back to normal…. To be safe I replaced the coolant temp sensor which was a very easy job. But it did not fix the problem. Still will intermittently peg hot and go into limp mode once you slow down.

I am thinking possible a broken wire (no resistance) however the wiring bundle is very secure and looks to be in very good condition. I have not opened the conduit to find the individual wire set or traced it back to behind the motor as of yet.

However I do recall in the past having to have a gas pedal sensor replaced and the shop replaced it but it didn’t get Jaguar reprogrammed so I failed and they reprogram it and then it was fine. Does anyone know if possible the coolent temp sensor would actually need to be programmed, so the car knows it was replaced???? Sorry for the long post.

Unfortunately you posted in the wrong part of the Forum This section is for the X351 commonly known as the XJ sedans dating from 2010-2019. Perhaps one of the moderators will move your post to where it belongs where you will get better answers to your issue. Good luck!

Welcome to the forums Tabatkinson,

I've moved your question from X351 to X350 forum. This is the place to post technical questions about your model.

Please follow this link New Member Area - Intro a MUST - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the New Member Area - Intro a MUST forum and post some information about yourself and your vehicle for all members to see. From Robert rawle UK Britain I had the same problem with my xjr it's your throttle body sensor its on the side its hard to find a sencor new your best bet is to look around on ebay or scrap yard its a densco sencor look on the side of the throttle body it's there the air filter pip goes on it
Your best bet is to find a complete throttle body it's easier to change and get one

Without a Jaguar specific reader, your in the dark guessing.
You need to access the codes, to see where to start looking.
