Default 2005 XJ8L with 165,000 miles?

I spotted a used 2005 Jaguar XJ8L at a used car dealer. The car has high mileage around 165K, it's mostly highway miles for the previous owner traveling between NJ and FL. I rode the car and checked the bottom of the car, and it appears very clean with no visible fluid leaking except a few drops of the coolant. Yesterday the dealer called and told me that the leak was due to a bad hose and it's been fixed. Anyway, I would like to know, given the high mileage of the car, what are the common parts will most likely to fail next if not now( I am not asking regular maintenance parts like brake pads, rotor, etc)? Will the engine and transmission last over 200K? I checked the engine oil, and it appears very clean. Also, I have not noticed any air spring issue when I was driving the car. Does that mean they have already been replaced given the fact they usually fail at around 100K miles.

Thank you for your input

With this many miles, its a crap shoot unless you have the service records. Without them, you will not know what to expect. The trannies are good for around 100-125k without lube and filter service, the air suspensions are good for 65-100k before compressors and air springs. With this many miles, suspension bush wear, shocks, differential bearing and seal wear, rear cv joint wear, brakes, alternators, ac compressors, radiator, steering pump, steering rack and tie rods and more are well worn. I would consider the price of a car with miles like this an entry fee.

The price the dealer offer is $6,600 and the miles are 156K miles. I have a mechanic friends can do most of the " brakes, alternators, ac compressors, radiator, steering pump, steering rack and tie rods" without letting me break my bank. But the engine and transmission are the things I am concerned most. It seems hardly anyone has driven this car to the ground to get like 250K miles without new engine/transmission. Thanks

A number of owners have got well over 250k miles, but I think maybe with a replacement tranny. The car you mention could get there, who knows ? Any car at this miles is going to be something of a gamble in terms of what goes wrong and needs fixing. If the price is right, then go for it, if not leave it. $6600 = circa £4150. At some point the car is worth more for its parts, and the aluminium tub, which fixes the minimum price in the trade
