2007 XJ6 Air Suspension Compressor failure
 

Hi All, I have a 2007 XJ6 D XJ350, which I am getting ready to sell and with perfect timing, the air suspension compressor is not starting up and the vehicle is at it's lowest height and won't pump up no matter how long it is left running. I have had the rear air struts replaced about 6 months ago but appears to be a compressor issue rather than a leak.

Any advice on the approach to repair or replace (in Australia) would be much appreciated.

I have just replaced my compressor. If you decide to only buy Wabco original compressor sold by Arnott.
The alternatives are made in China and do not last. Even though they are branded as original jaguar parts. Beware.
There is also a way of fixing the piston in the compressor. Buying a set of Bagpiping Andy piston compressor rings on e bay. I bought them on e bay but decided to put in the new one as the compressor in my car was not original and have no intent to sell in the forseeable future.

I fitted the kit from Bagpiping Andy a couple of years ago and it worked great. Replacement is easy. Make sure you fit the ring the correct way - the instructions are very good. Access to the compressor is good if you remove LH wheel arch liner and bottom bumper shield. The tricky part is re-installing the compressor due to the springy mounting. HTH. Good luck!

If there is no leakage, what should be the reason that the vehicle is at the lowest point? My car sits for weeks and months without lowering. And why shouldn't the compressor be triggered because of a leak? And if he's not being triggered, what's the point of overhauling it by kits of bagpiping Andy? Questions over questions........

Very simple.
The piston in the compressor is "damaged "
and after tirelessly attempting to pump air it gives up and fault light comes on. This is irrespective of a leak which is a different problem.
I had no leaks but faulty compressor and problem was solved. I went with the new arnott wabco for the long term.

I also overhauled the compressor and replaced the piston ring on my XJ 2008 as a preventative measure, so I know the general context. And the activation and frequency of the compressor is never independent of a leak, on the contrary there is a direct connection.
The activation of the compressor is determined by the situation in the pressure accumulator and as overheating protection time-dependant. Not because the poor compressor tirelessly tries to cover up not existing leaks.

I would start searching for the cause and fix the leak. At the same time, you can check whether pin 2 of the air suspension relay is receiving a control current from the control module and what happens if the relay is bridged.

Of course first check for leaks....that goes without saying.
But if no leak then the piston ring in compressor needs replacing or change compressor

Any error codes? specifically any C- codes (chassis). And I can also vouch for the quality of Bagpiping Andy compressor seal kit.

Hi I put in a new wabco compressor on my xj8 and fitted it to the old airline nylon hose wich at first attempt popped out of the compressor and the car dropped to the floor at first start.

Realising I must have done a mistake I raised the car again using the jack and found hose hanging loose. Cut of the first 1/2 inch where the olive pressed then another 2 inch piece to connect to the compressor with a new connector olive and a slightely different size nylon hose 2/12 inch long inbetween to two original hose pieces.
suspension works great but with orange light on constantly

No information about dash messages for the suspension... He just says the compressor never starts. That could be as simple as a fuse, or as nasty as a failed Air Suspension Module. Does the dash panel give any messages about Air Suspension Fault or Car too low? If not, then this is far more serious than just the compressor!

Compressor won’t run
 

Hi, I just bought an early 2004 xjr and the old and new compressor won’t run unless I jump pins 3 and 5 on the relay. Could you please give me some advice on what I should check?

Your relay could be shot .

I seem to remember when changing mine a couple of years ago the seller of the compressor said it was important to change the relay at the same time
