Alpine sound system in the Super V8 Portfolio?
 

Hey Everyone,
I was looking at the 2006 Super V8 Portfolio and saw that it had a different sound system than the already premium alpine system in my 2005 V.D.P. What is so different to give it that extra 80 watts and the 7 channel processing. Is there any more speakers included? And if so where are they located?

Portfolio has a separate 80w amp that powers the midbass in the front doors & two extra speakers on the rear parcel shelf...

And an extra center-fill speaker in middle of the dash...

Two extra speakers right next to the two subs on the rear deck lid?

As Cambo said..... 3 extra speakers. The front center fill is the most obvious. The rear shelf modifications are very subtle..... you wouldn't know to look at it whats been changed. From the electrical manual..

"An additional system is fitted to the Super V8 Portfolio. This system is an enhancement on the
premium system, offering a 7.1 channel Dolby Pro Logic 2 surround sound system. In addition to the
premier system, the Dolby Pro Logic 2 system has two additional surround speakers in the rear parcel
shelf and a centrally mounted speaker in the instrument panel. It has an improved subwoofer with an
enclosure, and this is mounted to the underside of the parcel shelf. The mid-bass door speakers have
been uprated, with the front speakers needing an additional amplifier, and this is mounted in the
luggage compartment. For the vehicles fitted with the rear seat entertainment, the system will also
offer infra red headphones"

There is very little info on the system apart from the above blurb. I've never seen a wiring diagram for instance. I've also never seen any supplement that tells you how the IR headphones are supposed to work. (I have them but for the life of me can't get them to work)

I'm not a real audiophile, but the system does sound awesome. It really shows up when playing DVDs on the rear screens.

If you are looking at a Portfolio, ask the owner if it has the IR headphones (They are usually in the rear cubby between the seats) and if he knows how they work. If he does, PLEASE POST BACK !!
