Arnott and Strutmasters Coil Strut Conversion
 

Has anyone used the Strutmasters rather than the Arnotts? Please describe your experience if DIY. What did you run into that was a problem? If you had a shop do it, how many hours of labor were charged?


Also, what is electronics aftermath, i.e., can you really get rid of fault warnings and warning lights after the conversion and air suspension system electronics are disabled?

Just a new something to think about. I found a site that will sell the Arnotts ($1,181) for about the same price as the Strutmasters ($1,195); both charge about the same shipping fee.


So which way to go? Which is a better product with price being equal?

I decided to order the Arnott struts from CARiD.com. I live chatted with someone there to ask if they could discount shipping in order to help me make up my mind between ordering from them or Strutmasters. (I preferred the Arnotts to start with....) Here's the final deal, total cost $1,190.83:

Cost of Arnott struts: $1,180.85
Shipping: 45.41
Subtotal $1,226.26
Shipping discount: $ 35.43
Tax: $ 0.00
Grand Total: $1,190.83

I'm happy with that. They should arrive by Friday, and then I'll try to find a nice day to put them in.

oooh, I hope they make it in just fine. Carid.com has some bad juju in car circles. I think they're just a bargain basement reseller - so if you have any issues, it's not fun.

will be interesting to hear your opinion on their install and ride.

fwiw, my notes have-

strut masters: eibach springs/bilstein shocks/steel top hats (looks like it to me)
arnott: unknown springs/bilstein shocks/CNC machined aluminum top hats
black dog suspension: 'overseas' springs/bilstein shocks/steel top hats (not confirmed)

from another forum member who made some calls. (Arnott told the member they didn't know about the shocks or springs, but you can clearly see the Bilstein logo on their picture, and confirmed by other members who have installed them.

*my ongoing theory is that all of them are simply using a set up for an S type of the same years. Almost the same weight, and one guy has put a whole used S type suspension he put on his ($500). Only change was the top hats/shock mounts holes didn't line up so his installer redrilled them.
