Check Pressure Spare Tire Warning - Help
 

Hello all! New here (introduced myself in the intro part of the forum). I recently purchased a 2006 Jaguar XJ8 and intermittently I get the following warning:


However, the spare tire is properly filled to the required pressure. Is there a way to make this warning go away? What could be causing it and what should I look for?

I had that message a few months ago. I filled the spare to what the other wheels were and the light stayed on. I added 5 more psi and it went out.

Hi Guys , If you have the emergency spare wheel as jaguar call it , the skinny wheel , the recommended pressure is 60 PSI . My model does'nt have the feature for the "spare" pressure but what a good idea the spare is often overlooked.

Yea the spare tire needs a little more than recommended. The TpmS sensors in this vehicle takes a bit longer to cycle once triggered by low psi

In some cases light and warning will stay on for two days.

'Skinny' spares don't have TPMS sensors fitted so ...

Either you have a skinny spare, and the system is faulty, or

You have a full sized spare which should have a TPMS sensor fitted and either ...

The battery in the sensor has gone flat ... new sensor unfortunately, you can't replace the battery, or

The spare is at too low a pressure. Try putting it up to 5 to 8 psi above pressure listed inside the fuel flap. You won't damage the tyre as long as you don't exceed the maximum pressure which is stated (a bit small, you may have to search a bit) on the sidewall of the tyre.

The tire pressure requirements on the door jam on my car require a specified higher pressure for the spare.

I think that's for a 'skinny' spare ... 60psi ? Not for a full sized one (I think). I'd go and look at mind but it's raining !

I had a perfectly working TPMS until one day I broke a valve stem. I took it into a tire shop and they replaced it. The system has not worked since, it displays "check pressure spare tyre and TPMS fault. It does go out every once in a while but stays on 98% of the time. They say they used a 355hz valve stem and my TPMS module says 355hz so that should not be a problem and I would think that just that one would show a fault.
Are there settings that they could have screwed up? Can I bypass the whole system for now?

If they replaced the sensor inside then wheel then if it goes straight into the spare position its number has to be programmed into the car's systems. However (I think I'm right in saying) the sensors on the wheels don't need to be programmed in, they update automatically, albeit it takes a few miles or tens of miles.

If that's so then swapping the spare with one of the road wheels should allow the system to register the spare's number. Got to be worth try ?

My 06 SV8 came with a full size spare from a different XJ8 without a TPMS sensor so I would get that message all the time and have to push the reset to make it go away, but after awhile the "check pressure spare Tyre" message only came on when the engine was first started and then went away by itself. Guess it learned that I was not going to do anything about it.

On my car, all four tires are low in pressure according to the dash indicator. The car was sitting for about a week and when I started it, I got a message to check all tires. The pressures are fine.

What could this be? Bad TPMS module or is there a way to reset or deflate/inflate tires to clear the fault? All TPMS sensors are about 4 months old.
