Cold feet
Hi,
I have a wonderful 2004 XJR, fairly new to me, and a question for you good people about the climate control.
I would say that in any car I have ever driven, I spend 90% of the time with the climate controls set to A/C off, minimum blower speed and aimed at the windscreen only. It seems I am not able to select this in my XJR. The closest I can get is the with the windscreen and feet setting. It seems that the only way to get only windscreen is to select 'def' which activates the A/C, which I do not want, and I cannot switch the A/C off leaving only the windscreen selected. This seems to be the case in practise and the user manual. I know this may seem like a minor niggle to most, but I just want to select what I want without having to have pre-selected combinations of things that the chaps at Jaguar thought would be useful. My wife has a RR L322 and that has buttons which do what you want and you can select pretty much any combination that you desire - a far superior setup I would say. Am I missing something?
Many thanks in advance for any comments, I will be most interested.

Hey Peter X358
Don't know if you'll see this, but just thought I'd let you know for giggles - the air vents and heating are in fact not working properly. Not something I want to deal with so into the specialist she goes.

Air conditioning with the windshield vents is intentional, to prevent frosting from moisture buildup. Running the defrost isn't very useful if humid air actually condenses on the windshield! If you regularly drive without air conditioning, then moisture buildup is not an issue for you. I live in Florida, and run the air conditioner even when it's 40 degrees (F.) out, because the humidity is 85 or 90 percent!
I think Benny means the situation when the heating is inefficient or the air going out of the vents has different temperature, usually warm in the middle and cool on the sides or only on a driver side....
and there is no place for giggles, it usually means a lot of work and expenses

He was pretty clear that he wants to use the windshield defroster vents only, but can't without the compressor running. That is an intentional design feature for the reason I explained. I was not trying to address the post about the system actually not working properly.
When working properly, selecting windshield defrost runs the compressor, for dehumidification.
