Convert/Switch U.S. FM Radio to Europe?
My U.S.-spec X358 VDP has found its new home in Germany. Now the FM radio tuner doesn't pick up stations any more - because the European stations are on different frequencies:
It's an SDARS model (i.e. w/ Sirius XM satellite radio, which of course also doesn't work outside the U.S.), not the IBOC/HD Radio model. Can anything be done to reprogram it? Or does it need a hardware replacement?
Curious, Philipp
"North American FM broadcast channels are on the odd 200KHz frequencies: 99.5MHz, 100.1MHz, etc. In Europe, channels can be on any multiple of 100KHz, even or odd. This means that a digital tuner from the USA will not tune European stations properly, resulting in distortion.

yes with IDS/SDD you can reconfigure/reprogram your radio . i swapped my japan spec premium sound with NAV mini disk player/head radio unit with an american spec CD player radio head unit . as it was programmed for US it required a code and none of the channels lined up.
i reprogrammed it as oceana spec for New Zealand . it no longer requires a code and it works perfect .

I have by now (obviously this is not high on my priorities list...) found an independent garage around Munich that would look at my radio frequencies issue.
Presented with the relevant page from the manual (“consult your dealer for market reprogramming”) and a photo of my Jag’s (insufficient) configuration screen, they agreed to try their IDS/SDD chops. They however also warned me it might brick the car.
Do I have to worry? Or should I go to the local Jaguar dealer, who at least in theory might be liable to get the car back into working order if things go sideways?

Honestly, the radio/CD player is only the small bit under the screen, for the hassle and worry of bricking it I’d buy a cheap one off ebay, I’ve been looking as I want to fit a CD player to replace my MiniDisk player, a new CD is about £60-£65 or about £40 if you want to downgrade to a cassette but you’ll have a working radio.
