Default Converting the early X350 phone to bluetooth

I have just converted the in built phone to bluetooth in my 2004 XJ8 & it was very easy. You need the following -
1: A bluetooth module from a later model of either an X350, X Type, or an S type. The part number is 7W93-10D893-AB
This should be available from any specialist Jaguar wrecker. In Australia, I would recommend Triumph Rover Spares in Adelaide. They have a vast selection of Jaguars being dismantled.(Literaly hundreds of them.)
2: A mounting adaptor plate.
3: A bluetooth antennae.
The above two parts can be obtained from OldJaguar - Specialty Services for Jaguar & Land Rover vehicles.
The bluetooth module just connects to the existing wiring plugs that plugged into the old phone module. The phone antennae cable becomes redundant & is replaced by the bluetooth antennae. To install the new antennae, just remove the upper boot lining under the rear parcel shelf. There are a few holes punched through the body work & it is very easy to feed the antennae through a hole so that it sits under the upholstery of the parcel shelf. I placed mine on the right side of the car so that it is away from the GPS antennae & the speakers. It is also necessary to disconnect the old phone handset. Just remove the vent cover from the rear seat air conditioning vent & then unplug the cable leading through into the centre armrest console.
Pairing is simple & when your mobile asks for a code, type in 1313.
In theory, you should also fit a new micraphone from a later model Jaguar that had bluetooth fitted as standard, because they have a different impedance from the old phone micraphone, however, I have been advised that it is not essential & that the old micraphone works quite well. If you fit a new micraphone, it just plugs into the socket in the upper centre console & uses to socket that the old micraphone plugged into.
All very easy.

Does this also allow you to play music from your phone through your system via Bluetooth?

All items come up on Ebay once in a while sometimes at very good prices.

There are two different Bluetooth modules. One that supports a single phone and one that supports multiple,

I installed the latter.

Unfortunately, it only allows you to use your phone on bluetooth. It is possible to get a complete system upgrade which will give you full features, but it is far more expensive & is a specialist job.

Do you know where mic is located? And what do you suggest as a replacement?

The micraphone is located in the upper central console. Another contributor to the forum has said that he has converted to bluetooth but has kept the original micraphone, & that it works well. Therefore, before fitting another mic, I would try it using the original & seeing how it goes. In theory, it should be a bit quiet, as the original mic has a different impedance, but it is worth a try.
If you find that you need to replace it, the micraphone can come from any of those cars that the bluetooth module came from. They are fitted into the roof lining & are usually just cut out by the wrecker. You will need to drill out the rivets to remove the old piece of lining.
To remove the centre console, open the sun glasses container. At the top centre there is a star headed bolt. Remove it & pull down the rear of the console as far as it goes. Then insert your fingers into the gap at the sides & while pulling down with your fingers, push up against the roof lining with your thumbs. It takes quite a lot of pressure. Then move your fingers as far forward as possible & repeat the process. CAUTION - Do not pull down hard on either of the two front corners as the plastic is quite thin at those points. Once removed, you will see a short black wire on the right side of the console. The rear end of the wire has the plug. Press down on the locking clip & pull the plug out. The new micraphone slots into that original socket. To fit the new micraphone, you will need to punch a hole in the roof lining for the cable & then two more for the securing bolts. You will need two small bolts with counter sunk heads.
To replace the console, push the rear end over the roof lining & then push the entire console up. It goes back in far more easilly than it came out. Then replace the bolt. If you need any further assistance, please just ask. Best wishes, Craig. PS don't forget to unplug the old phone handset.

If you are looking for bluetooth and phone integration I have the kit you need. All from Amazon. Android and Apple compatibility with app VR(voice recognition) and onscreen track display. Crazy simple install.

Yes forward track with button press. Voice recognition with long press. App to change freq. Works exactly as stated with manufacture. Make sure you get antenna adapters

Default Re Bluetooth to early XJ8

Hi Craig I realise it's an old post but I tried mimicking what you've done in my 04 XJ8 X350

With all the cameras up here in Qld nabbing phone usage time to bite the bullet

I read you post above on Bluetooth install

Which head unit did you have?

I've purchased the 7W93-10D893-AB Bluetooth module from an X type
My car is early X350 XJ8 with non sat nav and non premium amp but phone in console tried fitting it up used the antenna you recommended and Was wondering if you had to switch the Bluetooth module on in the Idd software ?

As we couldn't get anything up on the screen and couldn't see it on the phone

Trying to figure out if the module works or if my head unit supports it

I added Bluetooth to my 03 xjr and followed this post from post 44 onwards;

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...-152370/page3/

If I rememeber correctly it just worked.
I do have the premium audio so maybe that makes the process different.
I had a phone already installed

Thanks paddy
I've researched all the pieces of info you've shown but I'm still baffled my head unit is the non touch screen but I've got the phone in the console that's why I thought I'd give it a try

If you have non premium audio and no cd-changer the fiber optic bus on your car is likely not activated. Adding the BT module would produce nothing because the head unit is not looking for fiber optic modules at all.
You can activate it using SDD, just follow the steps for "adding new module", the HU would recognize it and it would work after that.

Thanks Vefframov for the info figured you'd know
My car had a changer and console telephone but not a touch screen my head unit also has subwoofer control but not fitted I had a jaguar Gateway installed for my iPod back in 2014 but don't have Apple product's these day's
I've tried to see the Bluetooth unit on the sdd software couldn't see it but will try the method you've described.

My amplifier seems to have also disappeared from the sdd as well so will try that again also.
I've pulled it all out got my nephew fixing the screen flickering and dimming found out on the forum how to repair that so that's a bonus
thanks for the info

Maybe your fiber optic loop is broken somewhere. The fiber cables need to go from one device to the next and can't have empty slots. The easiest way to diagnose - if you pull a connector form a device you should see red light blinking a few times on one of the wires right after you turn power on to the radio - if you don't it means the upstream connection is broken. Also all devices on the loop need to be powered.

If the fiber loop is broken the head unit won't see any of the devices there.
