Cookie monster for bulbs
My 2005 XJ8L has developed a Cookie Monster like appetite for headlamp and marker lamp bulbs anyone else have this issue? This latest time the marker light melted the socket.
Perhaps it is the vestigial ghost of Joseph Lucas at work giving me a bit of that authentic English car experience. (Of course these days the Germans seem to be making a strong bid for dominance in the electrical issues area).

You should chek voltage and amperage to teh bulbs. My guess is cheap aftermarket bulbs that have a higher than normal resistance, causing overheating, just a guess though. I have good luck with Sylvania/Osram bulbs, anything else is questionable.
Have been using the OEM bulbs for the markers and the last time I replaced the headlamps (this past spring) had them use Sylvania Silver Stars. This time the headlamp bulbs were replaced with OEM bulbs from the dealer (cannot get my big grubby mits in to replace them myself).
I have gone through two sets of Silverstars in the car, they last less than a year and I got tired of changing them so I don't use them anymore, teh littel whiter light wasn't worth the time fooling with them.

Just recently bought my 04 XJR. All four sidemarker lights, plus both license plate lights were burned out. I looked at the car during the day, and didn't notice them. I replaced them all and have not had a problem since. I was surprised though that all of these bulbs were burned out.
