Default Cooling system bleed procedure

Recently re did majority of my cooling system (due to old age) on my 2006 xj and all the bleed procedures i’ve tried either don’t work or I may be a idiot and i’m doing them wrong. i’ve payed attention to all of them and i go for a drive and like 5 mintues later my temp gauge rises then falls super quick like there is a air pocket. could anyone provide me with the proper procedure step by step?

You have air trapped inside somewhere.
no Problem at all no tools needed. Raise car in the front or put it on an incline. Make sure coolant is at right level in expansion tank . Clean around lid area put your mouth on it (wear safety glasses and a humid towel at hand) blow as hard in it as you can then retrieve your mouth fast . You wiil hear it burp .
max 10 times . Did it on xj8 4.2 with success after changing radiator and hoses and on xj6 3.0 after radiator and again after heatercore changed. 10 min job.
Early xjr have a bleeder at compressor from what I remember but it might work ther too, but there is more coolant necessary
normally you would bleed air out engine running over expansion tank bleeder screw . They tend to not seal afterwards so I do not touch them. if you try what I explained you might not even need to do that

The system itself is basically self bleeding. There should be no additional steps needed to bleed the system. AllData has a bit more detail, but it is basically the same.

Yah fantastic . I had my Oe thermostat housing changed on my 2003 xj8 4.2 210k miles at a garage from a mecanic. Well 3 kilometers trough a village with 50km/h and a couple of roundabouts later I stood by the side of the road with high temp coolant on dash and a full 1/2liter / 1/2 quart missing. Had to fill up with tap water 10 min after cooling down to at least get back home only to drain the just put brand new coolant again . In addition had to get a new expansion tank what did not seal... the bleeder screw

I've done a complete cooling system overhaul, link in sig, and the only bleed process I ever needed was leaving the screw open on top of the expansion tank as I filled it. Don't run the car with that screw open or you'll just pump the coolant out.

UPDATE:
check your thermostat first, because I think mine was stuck closed. all the procedures worked just fine after I replaced that and the radiator and my car is back on the road
