I would just ring up the parts dept at the dealer.

I doubt it's knackered as it only has a blow on it - I am hoping that my local garage can fix it to be fair... we shall wait and see on Monday when it goes in for service!

Are you aware that a common problem on the diesel models is for the exhaust pipes to crack at the flexible section near where they are bolted onto the exhaust manifolds ? You can buy after-market non-flexible replacements, or a Jaguar one with the flexible section. If you use the after-market ones you may get more vibration as that is what the flexible section is designed to suppress. Both kits avoid having to replace the front catalysts
Apart from that I don't think I've ever read about an exhaust problem on any X350 or X358. The whole system is stainless steel and pretty well engineered.
