Default Diagnostic Port Dead

I have used the diagnostic port on my 05 Super V8 with a cheap BAFX universal reader with success in the past. It read the correct code for misfires on cyl 5 and allowed me to clear everything once that coil was replaced. Anytime you plug this device into any car a red LED lights up to indicate connection to the car and power is present. This happens even if the car is off.

I hired a local locksmith to come program a new key because my car came with only one. After informing me that his connector cable had been "acting up" the locksmith plugged his large expensive looking diagnostic / programming tool into the OBD2 port and it refused to connect to the car. There was also a message on the nav screen something like "You are screwed see your Jaguar dealer immediately" but only briefly. He tried 2 other programming tools and cables and eventually gave up. He said he would look into it and get back to me.

Now the OBD2 port is completely unresponsive and the red LED on my little reader does not light up when I plug it in.

I have checked the 5A "Diagnostic Connector" fuse F16 in the passenger footwell and it tests fine.

Any advice on resolving this problem without bending over for the dealer would be greatly appreciated.

Jeff

Update. The locksmith did get back to me and pointed out that fuse F43 is also associated with the "Diagnostic Connector". Sure enough that fuse was blown and replacing it solved the problem.

Jeff,

I have the same problem and same first name.

Can you guide me to the passenger footwell fuse box fuse and fuse F16. USA passenger side? I don't have a manual

And fuse F43. is that in the same fuse box? I get dazed and confused when I look under the dash.

Thx, Jeff

Jeff,

Assuming that you have an X350 series XJ8, and you have a left hand drive car, The fuse panel is on the right side of the passenger footwell behind a rectangular plastic door. F 43 is on the lower left corner of the fuse panel if I remember correctly. You should have some spare 5A fuses in the trunk under a plastic door panel on the very lower back wall of the trunk close to where the trunk latches.

Good luck
Jeff

Smile thanks for the help, no power obd port jx8

Victory, problem solved. well step one any how.

Thanks for the help.

I ve moved to the x308 forum BTW

I wanted to thank you guys.

I had been away from the car a while

the correct fuse was number 10 in the rear passenger compartment (not the boot) under a cover where a passenger in the rear right seat heels would be. 5 amp fuse changed. I now have power at the obd port.
