Door locks

Can not lock driver's door with remote transmitter. All other doors lock. Tried both one stage and two-stage approaches. Is this a programming issue or is this new Jag owner missing something. Manual not helpful.

More than likely needs a latch assy.

Thank you for responding, laketime. Where can I purchase one? Is this something I can easily install myself?

If you are not familiar with the car I would find a good shop to relace it for you. You can find a shop in your area by searching the regional forum.

It's possible that a microswitch in the actuator has failed.

Locks are available used on e bay or you can buy a new one from a dealer.

Locks are handed so you need to get the right one.

Passenger door locks are not the same as driver door lock.

If you decide to repair yourself I can post pictures which will help.

I just replaced my rear passenger door one did the front passenger one 6 months ago

I got a brand new one online

If you look online you will find the one you need cheaper than a dealer if you search its not a real biggie to install although I took it my local jaguar indie he did that and the headlight switch at the same time while I waited and 237 for the labour

Thanks, meirion1. Will take to qualified technician for evaluation. Then, buy parts on line for technician to install.

Thanks. Seen many references to Don's Jaguar Service, Flemington, NJ. Might give try on this small job in order to test waters.

Stagger - that's exactly the condition I had last winter. Like Meirion said, the actuator had failed. I ordered a new one from Gaudin jaguar & replaced it myself. Not extremely difficult, but not extremely easy either.

Tempting, A-Jim, but will probably not try it myself. Thanks for disclosure and validating that this is likely the problem.

Will take look see, Doc. Nice to see what I'm dealing with. Thanks.

Great confirmation, Merion! Thanks! I think I will outsource this repair!

Door lock actuator replacement

meirion1,
Can you post your pictures on replacing the actuator? My 2008 XJ8 driver's side just stopped working. I can lock/unlock with the key, but the fob only locks all the other doors and the small lock inside remains open. Thanks,
Jim

When an actuator fails what normally happens is the electronics thinks the

door is locked and if you open door manually with the handle the alarm goes

off. Place key in ign. to stop alarm.

You will need to remove door interior liner first and there are plastic clips

around the perimeter-use something like a blunt chisel (maybe cover in duct

tape to prevent damage) to lever each clip off.

You will need to use some force but take care not to break plastic clips.

NB there is a screw behind the chrome handle (covered by a round cap) ,and at

the bottom of the liner (underneath).

Remove black plastic moisture barrier and unplug two electric plugs from actuator

Not that easy because of clips and you can't see what you are doing.

Detach actuator from outer handle by seperating plastic clip on steel rod then

remove screws holding actuator.

Photos will not upload. Please PM me for photos via e mail.
