Question Fuel Tank location of a 2004 XJ8 4.2L

Hello everybody,

Can somebody tell me where is the location of the fuel tank on a 2004 XJ8 ?

I need to replace the Fuel levelSending unit, I opened the trunk but I do not see the fuel tank location like in the old models you can get to it through the trunk but mine is an 04 XJ8 all I see is the back of the sit from the trunk

The tank is a "saddle tank", situated below the rear seat. It is this shape so the drive shaft can pass under it. Fuel is continually pumped around it so the level is kept the same in both sides. I am not sure if there are any access panels in the seat pan.

You need to remove the rear seat squab to access fuel pumps but apparently removing rear

seat is not easy.

Maybe others who have done it can give you details on that.
