Default Air Conditioning Whine in 2004 XJ VDP

Wondering if anybody has found a recent fix to the whinning sound while the A/C in on. I found some threads back in 2010-2012 but nothing more recent. Seems like an A/C service has helped some. Appreciate any feedback.

I had this some years ago with my previous X350 and an air con service cured it. I have always taken the advice of air con shops to keep it on all the time so the compressor gets lubricated. Letting a compressor stand for months on end will not do it any good.

Just did an 'evacuate and recharge' of the A/C system and noise is gone! Hopefully it stays that way.

Jaggy Jeff, I'm trying to isolate a 'whining' sound that rises and lowers with revs in both drive and park/neutral. Possibly a pulley bearing? Power Steering?(seems normal), Water Pump? (seems normal), Suspension Compressor Pump? (seems normal) Air- Conditioning Compressor? (again, seems normal)? My question is, did your 'whine' rise and lower with revs, please?
Regards,
Ray

Hey Ray,
I believe it did rise and lower but not 100% since it was a while ago for me. What was clear was that the whine started the second I turned on the AC and went away the seconf I turned it off. So, it was easy to figure out the source.
Jeff
