Genuine Sport Air Shocks still avail - special order!
6 Attachment(s)
Those with XJR's or other X350's with Sport suspension who went looking for replacement air shocks would have found that the Sport version was no longer available to buy, certainly Bilstein stopped supplying the Sport version in their aftermarket catalogue, saying that you had to take the Comfort version instead.
The aftermarket air shocks were also available in only one version that was meant to cover both Sport and Comfort applications... Well I ordered a pair of C2C41352 Sport front shocks for my 2005MY XJR on 7th March from my usual parts supplier in the UK, they were delivered today 23rd April. Attachment 213479 Attachment 213480 Attachment 213481 Attachment 213482 Attachment 213483 Attachment 213484 As you can see they were produced by Bilstein on the 3rd of April, so pretty much made to order. What's caught my eye is there is a "best before date" like it's a bottle of milk or something... |
The 'Best Before' is, I think, because they are pressurised in order to keep the membrane in place inside; there's a pressure cut-off valve (~30 psi ?) to stop the unit completely deflating.
In fact I did read somwhere that stock should be periodically (6 months ?) returned to Bilstein (or at least their agents) to check that they haven't completely deflated, and to be topped up. |
Are these B4's or "standard" Bilstein's?
When I changed my leaking struts with B4's I didn't notice any "best before date" on their body. Bought them in January 2017, had them installed in December 2017. So nearly a year between both dates. No issue since then |
Air shock replacement?
Hi Cambo, I'm in California and understand I need a front and rear for my 2004 xjr. I do have that sport switch at the shifter as well. Could you let me know what those beauties cost and how to order them? Either reply here or pm me. Thanks
I'd thought I recall something in the past where someone on the forum was rahabbing them.I'd consider used, but thought since you were the brave soul that I'd ask about the cost and process.
