Default 04 XJR Heater Problem

Newbie here looking to buy an '04 XJR with 200,000 km. Drove it today and it seems to drive fine except the heater is not blowing hot air on the drivers side, it blows hot on the passenger side and into the rear (it has dual zone) but not the driver side. Is this simply a servo/flap problem or something more? (could not find much in the search). Don't know Jags at all but I have lusted after one for years. I have not introduced myself on the new members section yet but I will when and if I buy this car.Not afraid of DIY. Seems like a great site and look forward to joining in an active way. Thanks

Psg - welcome. This subject is getting beaten like a dead horse. Please search "drivers side heat." Although it could be what you suggested, there's a strong likelihood that you have a clogged heater core, which backflushing will likely not fix. Estimated $400-$500 repair from an Indy mechanic. I just went through it myself.

Thanks Jim, looks like a heater core maybe. Funny how the search engines work, I searched 'heater problems' and got nothing but coolant level/radiator problems, your suggested search parameters got me what I was looking for.

Hi dsg

A part-blocked heater core is a regular here, but whilst the cause of no heat, and the cure, (new heater core), is well known, I have yet to see an explanation of how the core gets blocked in the first place. These Jaguar engines all should have a long-life OAT-type coolant in them from new, (coloured orange in my case), which are supposed to inhibit corrosion. I would have thought only corrosion sludge or silt could block up the heater core, not the coolant itself, surely ?
Any Jaguar technicians know the answer ?

Question

Not sure if its a related problem or not. My 2004 XJR puts out plenty of heat once warmed up for short drives, but for extended trips the vents blow cooler air out the top. This was most noticible during some very cold weather lately. It sounds to be as if there may be a control sensor that may be out of whack. any thoughts??
