Inadvertently shorted out the CDC in 2007 XJR, now no sound from speakers at all...

Hi all,

New jag owner here, have a 2007 xjr with a CD changer in the trunk. First time I tried to use it the CD holder wouldn't eject but I finally got it out with a screwdriver. When it wouldn't eject again a few days later I tried with the screw driver again and went too deep and accidentally hit some hot wires, saw a spark and the CDC eject button light turned off. Now not only is the CDC hosed and won't give me back my CDs but the speakers won't play all. The front CD player says it's playing tracks and the radio seems to work but there's simply no sound. I consulted the owners manual looking for a fuse, and I have scoured this forum, but didn't find what I was looking for.

The owner's manual did indeed list a fuse called "Rear CD" and the fuse was blown but when I replaced it there were no changes. Also inspected the fuse "Radio Head Unit" but it was intact. Does anyone know of another fuse I can try or have any other ideas? Thanks!!

remove the discs, replace and try again - worked for me

The discs won't eject from the CDC. Now there's no power to it at all. I fear I shall never get my beloved 90s music CDs back lest I pay a Jag dealer 100s of dollars to bring my stereo system back to life. Alas.

There are quite a few threads on the forum relating to stuck CD changers and detailing how to actually take the unit out of your boot and dissemble.

Is the eject button on the disc magazine player glowing green? If so you have power. If not it's going to be difficult to remove the inserted magazine. If you have access to a 12VDC power supply or a small 12VDC battery for your bench you can try the following:

Apply power to the disc changer. Tap on the magazine with the handle of a screwdriver. Solidly but not aggressively. The magazine usually will eject. I removed the entire CDC player assembly and took the mechanism out of the housing. I gave it a good cleaning with canned compressed air and sparingly used electronic spray cleaner being sure not to muck our the laser lens. Good to have 6-8 Q-tips handy. I cleaned the lens with Isopropyl alcohol and buffed it clean using a micro-fiber hand towel. Lastly any moving parts got a small drop of a lube made expressly for plastics.

Take the working mechanism back to the trunk/boot and plug all wires and connectors. Test it. Good to Go? A-OK. No sound? Try e-bay for a re-cycled changer. Good luck.

Thanks so much for the reply. There's no power, the green button turned off along with the speakers when I shorted it out. I will have a look today.
