Installing interior rear view mirror 04 XJ8

Help, I have a 04 XJ8, I wanted to install a review with the compass, I found one on ebay and it's on the way. I was just now looking over the handbook and it said it has to be install by the dealer. Is this right or can i install it myself?

are you referring to just taking the old mirror off and putting the replacement in its place? i have taken my review mirror down twice. its simple and self explanatory once you get started. as far where the dealer would be involved or an indy shop is making sure the car has the connections prewired to make the compass work. i assume you don't know if this is already in your car?

Yes, the car has the auto-dimmer; I just wanted to add the compass. I was not sure if this was a plug and play item. It just came in the mail today. I have all the instructions, I picked up one of those service disks off eBay about two months ago.

Thanks for the reply, will keep you posted on the outcome.

Thanks again for the reply. That was so easily and it was a plug and play, the hardest part was taking the car to the park so i could drive it in circles do calibrated the compass. Boy did i get some looks from the people walking their dogs. LOL

Hi,
I just sent you a PM. Didn't realize my XJR didn't have a compass and I want one again. I am guessing, as it's an XJR, it was replaced at least once before with a non-compass unit...

I've got this going on another thread as well, but here is a link to the current mirror wiring pics: Rear View Mirror Photos by ragman1171 | Photobucket
