Default Insurance Salvage whole parts car?

Anyone with any exp with that? I've been researching all angles as I am relatively Poor, seems like a good companion purchase to a high mileage daily driver.

Hey there, haven't had any experience myself, but read plenty of posts from lots of members who have done exactly that!

Seems to be just good ole common sense, but maybe those who have done it will drop by and post..........

Do you want to buy a running car with a salvage title? Personally, I would go with an older XJ in good condition. A few broken pieces and any advantage you had is now gone.

Are you talking about insuring a salvage car?

My friend has insured one of his. But it is done only for liability, the insurance companies don't insure a vehical for physical damage coverages.

I've parted out quite a few cars (not Jaguars particularly) for my own consumption as my hobby is restoring older and classic cars. I would look for "wrecked" cars that were previously in excellent condition. I wouldn't bother with an average condition wreck because I couldn't use enough parts off of it. I was generally looking for the plastic, vinyl and rubber trim and interior bits as Texas sun is quite hard on those parts and they are often unavailable as new.

You need a place to do this tho. You should not plan on just parking a junk car in your back yard. It will rot, become home for rodents, annoy the neighbors etc. I would dismantle cars immediately and stock the parts I wanted to keep in labeled boxes on shelves. I've got one of those garden sheds chock full of car parts. There's no lawnmower it in, just car parts. I always need a bigger shed but now the situation is I have parts in there I'll never use and its a much bigger chore than you'd imagine to ebay the excess.
