Default Jaguar XJ8 X350 power column tilt & reach fault

Hello, I have a 2003 Jaguar XJ6 3.0 SE with a power steering column fault. The column will not move at all, not in auto mode or manual mode. The auto pedals work from the switch ok but not the column. The dashboard messages work ok when the switch is moved from pedals to auto to column etc. so it is not a switch fault. When the column switch is set at auto the pedals work as they should. There doesn't seem to be a fuse issue as the column fuse is ok , can anybody offer any help or advice. I have checked the many forums and there are many posts & messages with similar questions to mine but I can't find anything specific to these faults on an XJ6 (X350) so my apologies if I have missed the answer/s needed before posting here. Thank you , Paul.

check your obd-2 for any codes , you will need a dealer grade tool to check for any can bus codes , or specific module codes .
as you are not just looking for PXXXX codes also CXXXX codes .
with the likes of
ids/sdd or icarsoft i930 , or a high end workshop scanner .

my column spaz'ed out and disassociated it self from the cluster about a year ago , due to a failing battery ,. and needed reprogramming to the car with IDS/SDD. so first check your battery for voltage and cca then try a hard reboot .

reprogramming it via IDS/SDD and VCM requires the 11 digit column no# found on the top side of the alloy column bracket . or found in the left rear forward boot/trunk floor on a chassis barcode sticker .

Thanks for the reply, at the moment I don't have an OBD reader and just at the minute an expensive one is out of reach just at the minute but it is on my wish list.

The cars previous owner fitted a new battery last year so this might be relevant to the issue, could this have the same effect with the parking sensors ?

If programming is needed can a Jag specialist do it, if its not idiot proof then its beyond my capabilities especially if it involves inputting data! I'm sorry I have no idea what "reprogramming it via IDS/SDD and VCM requires the 11 digit column no#" means.

yes jaguar or a competent jaguar independent can do it .
aim for an independent if possible .
it is far from fool proof so best stand clear.
but certainly charge the battery . check its condition, check fuses , and reboot /disconnect battery ect , and try your luck .
any one can check diagnostic codes . a code reader is your friend

Thanks for the help ...very much appreciated, to reboot do I just disconnect the battery and reconnect and enter the radio code or is it more involved.

Well I did the reboot and there is nothing different, the column still won't move, I guess its off to a Jaguar bloke to see what he can find with a plug in wotsit !
