Loud whirring noise XJR 06
I just got back to my car after watching the new star wars last night, after starting the engine I noticed a loud whirring noise coming from the engine bay. On start up the noise is a lot louder, but then reduces a little once the engine is running. The noise increases as the revs increase, the car seems to be driving fine. However, I did nurse it to a Firestone service center, then back home. The Firestone center looked at it just quickly and thought it could be pulley, belt or S/C bearing, they tried listening with ears, but the sounds was traveling the the entire engine.
I did notice a small droplet leak coming from the transmission cooler lines, nothing pooling though. My indie checked the transmission fluid a few months back and it was full. I did have a Mina Gallery s/c pulley and new pulley installed a few months ago and the s/c oil changed with the GM/acdelco supercharger oil. I have 103k miles on her now. Videos of the engine running with whirring: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TMFK...ature=youtu.be https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eiAv...ature=youtu.be |
Just started her up this morning and all the lights on the dash came on, the console screen went black, the radiator fans were running after shutting the engine down & a metallic electrical burning smell was coming from the front right/passenger side of the engine bay. Possibly alternator??

Definitely the alternator. I Had the same thing. Don't buy a rebuilt on Amazon or online. They don't replace ALL the parts
Suggest buying a used Denso ( mine was an '07) on Ebay as I did. Then have it rebuilt locally. |
Was this resolved? My 05 XJR is making a similar, if not as loud, whirring noise.

Alternator was gone. I put a recon Bosch in & replaced one of the pulleys too. Runs great now :) |
