I just upgraded to a 2009 Jaguar XJ8. Love the body style. Does anyone know what year navigation CDs will work in the 09 Jaguar? When I bought my 2007 XJ* in 2016 I was told it was not possible to update the maps. I recently came across a pair of 2009/2010 CDs so obviously there are some updates available. Also, will the system hold both the eastern data and the western data together? Any help is deeply appreciated!!
Google reveals various upgrades, but most of them only apply to the later models.
For myself, Australia/NZ last upgrade was 2012 and I suspect it's the same in USA. Searching this forum for "navigation" will reveal so.
I eventually gave in and bought a separate Garmin, although the inbuilt navigation still works it is crap by comparison. Rather than typing I can speak an address (or Shop even!) which works most times without any voice training, and a Kiwi accent at that!
Of course any modern cellphone will do the same navigation, which I was told back in 2018 when I bought the car, but I paid for the on-board navigation and suffered accordingly .

Thank you for the info. I do have a Garmin 86, works great but on hot sunny days, the suction mount fails and the unit drops onto the dash . I just used the Garmin for a 40 mile trip till the Garmin stopped working. Turns out it wasn't charging due to a shorted power outlet. (newly purchased Jag, still finding bugs) I used the Jag system to get back to a main road so I would like to update it as a backup.
Did you do a update CD install? If so, what is the process, any code required?
I, too, have the 2012 as the latest possible update. If I remember correctly, you just put it into the nav-system in the boot and everything else is automatic.
My solution for a current navigation including traffic information is google maps (or similar) on an iPhone 8. It perfectly fits into the ashtray space (no need to remove the ashtray itself) and I don't need any holder for it. As I don't smoke and use the ashtray for change and the charging cable of the phone anyway, for me it is perfect. Bigger phones would most probably not fit, though.
Thank you, I saw a mention of a code on one of the posts so was afraid if a code was needed, who knows what might end up not working as they are all in series. I'm going to tur the install this morning! I have an iPhone 12 (bigger one so I don't have to put on reading glasses) I'll have to see how it fits in the ash tray.
Tnanks again for the quick response!
I have a late 2009 XJ8. It has a 2008 Nav DVD disc which works properly.
I bought 2009-10 XJ*8? DVD set, 2 discs eastern us and eastern US but they just give a message loading and nothing else happens.
I do not know if there is anything I am supposed to do to install them. I just inserted the disc but half hour later still says disc loading.
It's Not My Fault (my Honda van), but at least I can feel better about it. Who cares about a cellphone.
(Japanese Import Honda's clock is GPS-synchronised to Japan only, so I fixed that!)

I hate the tracking devices, but I use WAZE navigation to avoid traffic jams and for when the outdated Jag Nav is driving through fields. I already have a holder designed exactly like that without the cat. So, clearly I had to upgrade. Be here in a couplea weeks. Kidding aside, thanks for posting the pic.
