yeah, I'm tying to think of future options for my next set of tires. I have 20" sepangs now and like the look, but I think I'd prefer the ride of some 19"s. I also want to go wider though. I'd also like to keep same size though front and rear for rotation purposes. Was there any fitment issues with the front tires? Beavis, you said you had to trim the inner arch, how close was the outer wheel arch to the wheel/tire?

Beavis 03-21-2014 04:57 PM

@Muddybear - loads of space toward the outer wheel arch. Over on the uk forum several of the chaps have larger tyres while protecting the rolling circumference. Suggest you take a look, full of good stuff.

Can I get 295's under the back of the XJR?

I'm Herculesuk1 on the UK forum.

Here are my vehicles I entered at our local club concours last May. Getting one vehicle ready is a lot, two is just brutal.

Thanks Beavis. Since you have more space toward the fender in the rear, couldn't you just install like a 10mm spacer in the rear to avoid cutting the inner fender? I'm just wondering if you think that would be an alternative to cutting things.

Also, I haven't seen much talk of people putting wider tires in the front. Do you know of anyone running wider front tires? Have you measured available space in the front? I'd like to keep the front and rear the same

@muddybear I'm running 255s on the front and 285s on the rear on the standard cremona alloys with no issues and no mods to anything, rolling circumference is within tolerance ( same setup as the xkr).

Very nice Caldoofy :icon_rally:

Thanks, what offset XK version do you have? Isn't there 2 different offsets for XK's depending on the year?

Also, does anybody know how wide of a tire you can run on the front?

caldoofy 03-25-2014 12:00 PM

Standard XJR cremonas, so both the same size and offset, the xk ones catch due to different offset. When i said xkr setup i was referring to tyre sizes.

Thanks for clarifying. Have you ever tried putting the wheels with the 285's on the front to see how they'd clear. If it can fit, then I think I'd rather have all 4 wheels be 285's.

Been thru a few, starting with a 96 VDP, 74 E-Type, 99 XKR, a few S-Types including one STR and now one I have been watching since it came out, a 2006 Super V8 Portfolio. Not the best pics, but you get the idea

How about a pair of X350's

No I have never tried , but I wouldn't either the 285s in my opinion would be overkill on the front, firstly they would likely catch, secondly i don't think they would look particularly good, thirdly we don't know what the effect might be on steering performance as the 285s are heavier and obviously would create more friction on the road so this load would be directly transferred to the steering components, fourthly the only reason to put bigger on the back is to help get the power on the road there is no such issue with the front grip is more than adequate. The're is little rolling circumference difference so visually the wider rears don't look out of place and we know the 255/285 combination that jaguar specified on the xk works and has not caused any issues with my own car over nearly a year of being fitted.

That s my take on it anyway.

Here is my XJ6 (X350) 3 litre V6 Sovereign in pearlescent jaguar racing green with 20" sepang alloys - Purchased the car in December 2013 and have since added a mesh grill. Future upgrade will be fitment of U.S spec font & rear side marker lights.
Over the past week or so a slight vibration was creeping in to the cabin via the steering wheel and seat so I had all 4 wheels re-balanced and filled with nitrogen - problem solved - nice and smooth again.

Thought I'd throw my 350 in to the mix... Not great pictures, but they do look good on the computer/ipad screen.

If I am not wrong it is Duplicolor Graphite with the Duplicolor clear on it. Close up it is pretty rough because on the day I paint I don't know how but some moisture seep on it and the surface is gritty and some is smooth, Need to redo in the near future.

More picture for reference.
