Oil question.
Just curious.
Is there a time, if ever, that a xj8 owner would want to begin using a high viscosity oil in their engine?
Right now, I am running Pennzoil Synthetic 5W-30.
My XJ is 20 miles from 97000 miles.
I have practiced over my years of maintaining cars to switch to a high viscosity after 100,000. I know these engines tolerances are very tight.
I have minor engine noise, little ticks here and there. There is also a little knocking sound, not a rod knock though.
Advise please. Need to learn a little.
Thank you.

I would stick with the same synthetic oil and viscosity you have been using all along. Synthetic oil means less wear and your engine may actually have the wear of a 30,000 mile engine. Now if we could only become 18 again!
I think you would be fine with 10w40 Castrol gtx "high mileage" formulation.
Try it and see if it makes the valve train quieter.
If you like it, use it. If not, go back to the 5w30.
Snowing here. 8000 ft. My baby is tucked away for awhile.
Snowblower time tomorrow.
I winterized the RV today. Good. Going down to 15 degrees tomorrow night.
Just watched Sandoval hit his third hr...
2 off verlander wow.
