Post corrosion repair and a few other pics...
 

Just got my car back from the Jag approved bodyshop (in for 9 days!) to get some corrosion sorted out under Jags 6 year corrosion warranty.Total cost paid to the bodyshop by Jag was only £136 (guessing thats approx US$200?)!

What do you think caused that corrosion? My car is an 04 and there has never been any sign of corrosion anywhere on the car.

Did the corrosion occur at the leading edge of the boot lid ? If it did, check the seal on the rear screen, as the lip on mine rubbed on the underside of the lid, removed paint, (due to grit washing down and collecting), thus allowing corrosion to start which then crept round onto the outer surface.

This corrosion is, in all the cases I have seen, of crevice-type whereby water/salt get into a small space between aluminium and paint, excluding oxygen, thus allowing rapid attack. On open-to-the-air aluminium, the self-healing oxide later prevents attack. How else do aeroplanes manage with their bare aluminium airframes.

The bootlid is fine.The corrosion was in this area and was actioned before before any paint breakthrough which would then have voided the warranty I as I understand it.

Over here in UK there are quite a few reports of corrosion.
Mines going back next week for authorisation hopefully on more work as there is a very slight area of bubbling started ½ way down the rear screen just beside and under the seal which is easier to feel than see.

I have a 2005 XJR and have noticed a one inch by one inch corrosion on the bottom front fender of my JAG. While washing with the pressure washer, the paint detached from the aluminium. I will be going to my JAG dealer to see if anything can be done under warranty. Did they tell you that the repair had to be done before the the paint would peel off?

I really hope that I can get it repaired under warrany! An aluminum car that rusts faster than a metal car is kind of bothersome and should not be.

Im not sure what the terms or length if warranty are outside the UK but over here there is a 3 year warranty on paint and a 6 yr warranty on corrosion.There would be a problem if the paint had broken where there is corrosion is as you cant really then proove that it was corroded from under the paint before the paint broke.The corrosion hadnt broke through on mine when the dealer took pics so Jag saw corrosion under the unbroken paint.In the time it took them to agree to do the work the corrosion had broken the paint so wouldnt have been covered.
Even if your car is under 6 years old I cant see Jag agreeing to do the work as your paint has broken leaving the metal open to the elements so they could argue it wasnt there before the paint broke.

Vaguely remember but dont know for sure
