Rear Brakes binding
Hi Guys
My car is a 2007 XJ6 X350. I have just finished putting new discs and pads on all 4 wheels. Front worked fine but when I did rear wheels and tested them the brakes are binding. I am guessing that the parking brake is stuck on. Also I got a message on the dash saying " Cruise Control not available". I am not sure if the message is connected to the problem or something else entirely. Any ideas would be gratefully accepted Thanks in advance Cormac |
Additional info
I reset the parking brake twice and still not different. However the Cruise Control message has gone. Cormac |
Did you wind the piston in before installing the caliper?
|
Hi Mark
I wound the pistons back a far as they would go. I have the tool to do this. the rear right was fine but the left was much more difficult. I opened the bleed screw to reduce the pressure and bleed the brakes afterwards. I am about to redo both back brakes to see if I have done something stupid. Any thoughts would be helpful. I am reasonably good with spanners and have done this job many times on various cars but never one with an electronic hand brake.. Anyway back to the fray Cormac |
Hi Mark
Thanks for your interest. Having dismantled the brakes I discovered the problem. The new discs were a different size than the old. I knew it had to be something stupid. Lesson learned never trust an online supplier, always check the items when delivered. Thanks again Cormac |
That sucks. But the seller should remedy the wrong part. At least you are not buying a caliper. Both my rears needed replacing about a year apart. My caliper kit is well used on all my cars. All those years of using C-clamp are over. One of the best tool sets I've purchased, and it was cheap.

Just our of curiosity what was the size difference? Too thick, too wide of diameter?
|
The diameter was smaller than the original. Being too cocky I never thought to check that the discs were correct. The old saying is certainly is apt in this situation " Pride comes before a fall"
