Replace Clock Bulb

29 Attachment(s)
Hello-

My 'new to me' 2004 VDP had a non-functioning clock bulb. In about an hour and with a replacement bulb, I was able to remedy this issue.

I disconnected the battery for safety purposes.

Pics 1-3 show removal of rear heat/air vents. Pull the assembly out and disconnect the 4 connectors. Remove 2 T27 torx bolts.

Pics 4-5 shows the removal of wooden shift knob and wood/chrome shift surround. Remove 2 T27 torx bolts. Lift center console from rear and detach from radio/nav area.

Pic 6 - Lower the steering column to allow for additional workspace.

Pic 7-8 - Remove wood trim. Start at left of airbag area and work around the dash.

Pics 9-10 show the removal of 6 or 7 screws

Pic 11 shows the removal of the cluster surround.

Pic 12 shows 2 screws under airbag cover which need to be loosened to allow the vent and clock assembly to slide out from under 'ladder bracket' beneath the airbag fascia.

Pic 13 shows removal of removal of vent and clock assembly

Pics 14-16 shows the separation of clock from its mount. Two clips on bottom, one on top. Disconnect electrical connector.

Pic 17 shows old bulb (green) and replacement bulb from Carquest.

Pics 18-20 shows rear of clock and new bulb installed.

Pics 21-23 show re-installation of screws.

Pic 24 shows closeup of clips which should be on the backside of the wood dash cover, not stuck in the dash. Place these on the backside of the wood fascia on the proper 'tang'.

Pic 25-27 shows re-installation of center console, seat heaters, and a/c connectors

Pic 28 shows the reconnection of the battery.

Pic 29 shows lighted clock---success!

Credit to Hustle Hyde for helpful information to get me started. I tried to document with photos in order to help future bulb-changers. Hustle Hyde's thread here:

Thanks,mine globe is out too.

That is a much better looking clock to the earlier models,ie.mine has no numerals.

Wonder if your model fits the earlier ones? Something for me to check out,if I'm going t do the globe I would prefer the better clock.

Thanks, used this one to get to the air vents as the chrome control lever had parted ways with the internal part and needed re-glueing.

Nice to see a write up with pictures love that old style clock wish there was more gauges in cars, like older jags used to have with oil, battery, temp ,and fuel all in separate gauges
