Default SC inter cooler pump question

Right now I am working on replacing my auxiliary coolant pump to fix my no heat issue. I read a few threads where people confuse this pump with the inter cooler pump. They do certainly look similar.
That got me thinking: what would happen if the inter cooler pump failed?
What would the result be in drivability? I have had issues with pinging on my car, and I'm wondering if this might be related. I know others have chased the pinging with little luck on their cars, and I wonder if this could be the cause.
Just seeing how worn the brushes on the auxiliary pump were on my 97,000 mile car makes me think the inter cooler pump could certainly be as bad.
Thoughts?

The Aux pump is under the reservoir and behind the radiator
The SC pump is in front of the radiator

If the SC pump stops the engine goes into restricted mode when the SC coolant get too hot. This could take a while depending on driving conditions, etc. It happened to me and I found the car to be still pretty driveable, just no decent acceleration. But continued driving (I was far from home) caused multiple misfire codes to be set.

Interestingly, replacing the pump did not sure my problem. Somehow the circuitry on the fuse panel got screwed up and the onboard relay had no power. reconnecting the pump wires to a different relay solved the problem.

Actuality there is nothing to sense the pump is working or not.

Vehicles with supercharger have an additional intake air temperature sensor located on the right-hand charge air cooler. The IAT measures the temperature of the air entering the charge air cooler. The ECM uses this information to compensate for higher than normal air intake temperature

What this means if the pump is not working your intake temps rise rapidly and the ECU will compensate.
Depending on how high the temps are depends on what happens. The big down side is when you back off the intake is being heated by the heat stored in the intercoolers as the water is not flowing to cool it down so the heat goes into the air flow
