Strange cable

Just bought 2006 Vanden Plas. Everything in it appears to be stocked in the way it should be except for a black old style iPhone cable coming from out of the center console. Is this normal or is this added later and if so where would it be plugged into?

Somebody has added that. There shouldn't be any loose cables anywhere.

Askiles 11-13-2017 07:30 AM

Ok...I’m not sure it is attached to anything because I’ve bought an adapter to change the input to newer iPhone cable and it doesn’t have power. It’s not charging at least

when you select the audio button, do you have an AUX option or are you just seeing AM/ FM?
If you have the AUX option, you may have the ACM installed which allows you to play songs from you iPod.
It could also be some part of a bluetooth hookup that was partially removed.

I’m not even sure where that would be leading to or what kind of plug is there.

You didn't answer any questions.
on your touchscreen, when you select the audio button, do you have an AUX option or are you just seeing AM/ FM?
If you have the AUX option, you may have the ACM installed which allows you to play songs from you iPod. All the parts to it are behind the dash but the cord plugs into the iPod, so first check to see if you have an option to select AUX on your screen.

It could also be some part of a bluetooth hookup that was partially removed.

Ok so on my way home from work I press the audio button and it only has AM/FM options. Would it have to be plugged in for AUX option to appear?

No. ACM (Audio Connectivity Module) was an add on feature for base XJ's. Once installed, you have to activate it via the SDD (Jaguar) software.

Once activated, AUX appears as an option. Then you simply plug in your iPod into the cable end that you have and you operate your iPod as normal, but the sound comes out of your system.

If someone had installed it and then removed it, it's unlikely they would have paid to have the option disabled so AUX would still be there.

Others will have to chime in about the alternative uses of that cable. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

Ok so it’s safe to assume that cable is useless. It is now an annoyance to me, a big one. If I were to remove it, would it be safe to just cut it? How would you go about getting rid of the obsolete cable

There is no AUX on the screen with these cars, the ACM emulates the CD changer. AUX is only seen on the screen in the XK system.

Oh my bad, than plug in your iPod and try it out

Askiles 12-02-2017 12:43 AM

OK but with the ACM there are several switches and inputs that I don’t have. Such as USB memory devices, auxiliary input, CD changer bypass switch and reset switch I have none of that it’s just the iPod cable is coming out from underneath the cupholder.

Askiles 12-02-2017 11:22 PM

Ok so I went into the glove box this afternoon and lo and behold tucked up in the left corner is the ACM module! So upon playing with this using a flash drive with music on it it brings up another question. Is there anyway to browse the music I have on it? The only thing I've been able to figure out how to do is the play every single song in the order they are on it. And that's several thousand. If you have any ideas or tricks please let me know I appreciate all the help

Cambo 12-02-2017 11:53 PM

Well there's some good luck.

You need to arrange the music into folders or "albums", then you can skip through the folders by pressing disc 1 or disc 2 on the screen, skip through the tracks in each folder with the >> and << buttons.

What I did was make an mp3 file using a text-to-speech program, so that the car announces which folder you are in.

Askiles 12-03-2017 12:29 AM

Thanks I will try that. I appreciate the help! The flash drive is basically my iTunes library saved on a flash drive to my computer sucks and is now no longer operational so I'm kind of stuck with the files the way they are. But when I get a new computer I'll definitely try that thank you
