Auxillary Fan?

Auxillary Fan?
I have a 2005 VDP. About 60,000 now. I had the recall items fixed recently and that was my last service visit.
I swear I never heard this before but when the car is running and for sure when I shut it off an auxillary fan or the fan itself runs. It makes a heck of a racket. After shut off it runs for about 2 minutes at least.
Happening on warm days air conditioning on or not.
Is this related to the recall items? I can't find in the manual any mention of an additional fan cooling.
Seems weird to me.

Mark, you'll find a heap of posts during the summer for the fans staying on after car shutdown. Mine does, but for only 10 seconds or so. I don't know why an XJ would run longer than my xk8 by design, but its possible. If yours is staying on longer, that could be an indication that the engine is running warmer than normal, and fans are turned on to compensate...two fans IIRC. One is low speed, the other is high. Someone correct me if I'm spouting nonsense. The loud fan could just be the bearings going out on one, so may want to see about that.
My initial guess is the coolant system is restricted or crippled slightly. I would first fix that fan, then do a coolant flush/fill. If it still happens (fan staying on longer), only thing left is to check the water pump and thermostat. Pump could be a culprit, mine went out after 5 years.
Then again, it could just be normal. How's that for covering my butt.

Many thanks for the info.
I have a service in 1800 miles. Car has an extended warranty for 8,200 more. I am making a list of the things that I need fixed(rear window shade wont go up) and will have them look these items over too.
I don't deserve my Jags but I am not giving them up either.
