Default Voice Pre-wire

What years were pre-wired for voice control? What does this mean? Is the wiring harness already in the car?

I had voice control pre-wire on my '04. Wiring harness is tucked into the LR corner of the trunk, adjacent to the electronics stack (if equipped--DVD for nav, CD changer, etc). In addition to the module, you'll also need a microphone (plugs into the overhead console, installs into the headliner; should still available new from Jag dealers.) and the appropriate fiber optic cable/extensions. While you're in there, and if it's not already equipped, it's a nice time to add the Bluetooth phone module (standard on '08-09 US market cars), and maybe even a CD changer (if it still works).

Once all in, and once trained to your voice, you can control infotainment and HVAC from the steering wheel button. I sourced the voice module off eBay, the BT module from a junkyard car, the correct fiber harness from Terry's Jags and the mic from Harper Jaguar. At that time (4-5 years ago now), I also installed a junkyard-sourced CD changer into mine; that changer died in the past year or so.

Ideally, you should add all the added modules into the car's ecus via SDD, but it's not critical to do so.

Paul
