Today I replaced the driver's side window switch pack in my '06 XJ8-L. The window express down was not working. Now it does ! And almost amazingly, this switch pack was easy to remove and replace.

Just replaced front light bulb on headlight... Well, this was unplanned, just noticed that right headlight bulb was dead, so stopped at the nearest petrol station with a shop, purchased H7 bulbs (Bosch, 55w) and did the job. If there is anyone willing to do the replacement, unless you have small hands, ask your wife to do that there is no place whatsoever. It took me 40 minutes to replace just one bulb...
As I arrived home, suspension error came up on a dash. Now looking for a garage that might be useful

Low Engine Coolant light came on this morning. Tank was very low. Filled up and drove to work. When parked I noticed the sweet smell of leaking coolant and a few fresh drops underneath the front end of the engine, but I can't see where it's actually leaking from. The drops are located just about underneath the location of the oil filter. There are no hoses down there that I know of...could be leaking from above from the water pump gasket or thermostat housing, I suppose. I'll have to dig deeper.

Update: Just found an older post about a leaking water pump check hole, which drips its way down towards the front of the oil pan. That sounds like it may be the culprit. Will have to check tonight.

Replaced the water pump this morning. New ACDelco 252-800 with a metal impeller from Amazon. No more leaks and everything is running ship-shape.

Ordered and installed URO brand coolant temp sensor from eEuroparts. Less than 10% of OEM part. Trying to solve an intermittent hard start issue. To be monitored and continued. URO part comes w 2 yr. warantee.

Just installed in the compressor rebuild kit from Andy on the XJR. Install was pretty straightforward and went as planned. Only 1 battered knuckle.

Drove from LI NY to Va. 2004 xj8, stuck in traffic down there, looking at a used Jag. Toured UMBC, sharp new campus, didn't buy that car. My Jag. delivered big performance, felt great, 32 MPG, even toured Manhattan. Never a dash trouble light, thx Andy. Fun roundtrip. Looking for another!

I love Eeuroparts. I have used them for Saab parts. Excellent people to deal with and they can get the parts to you fast.

The intermittant hard start prob. is gone. No CEL light, just prob. out of range sensor. Go eEuroparts!

Oil pan cleaned, oil pan gasket changed, my first oil change, 2006 XJ8, 85K miles.

Almost certainly the first time the oil pan has ever been dropped, with all screws off it remained firmly adhered and had to be pried loose carefully with a flathead screwdriver. Gasket appeared fine but was changed anyway. Inside of oil pan had much gunk, initially tried simply spraying carb cleaner but ultimately had to clean up with paper towels. Found 2 helical metal strips, identical to ones in this thread https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...t-there-87845/, suspecting (and hoping) they are merely machining debris from production. Also some metallic flakes and dust, silver and gold. Sense of unease, but no way of knowing how old they are. Oil sample collected with Blackstone Labs kit and will collect again in 1000 miles to get a better picture of engine health.

Installed WIX 57302 oil filter (they're black now), changed out old oil pan screws for new zinc plated class 10.9 M6-1.0x20mm screws with zinc #12 flat washers, new 14mm drain plug. Torqued everything up, poured in 7qts Pennzoil Platinum High Mileage 5w-30, cleaned PCV valve. Upon starting up, slight scare as a couple drops of liquid dripped down from a spot roughly below the driver's seat, turned out to be cold water, probably benign drainage.

Had the car since 2012 and now realize the first thing I should've done with it - and probably any other car - is dropped the oil pan myself. First time I actually know how clean she is inside. Will probably change fuel filter in relatively near future.

Hopefully she purrs happily from now on!

Driverside headlight went out on Friday night, so I installed a fresh pair.

Then one of my ignition coils went out yesterday, causing a nasty misfire. Got a new one from Autozone, swapped it in, and we're back in business.

How did you diagnose the ignition coil? Did the OBD scanner identify the specific cylinder? Did Autozone scan it, or did you?

Just curious

Well, at first I thought I was throwing a rod or something because the engine was bucking and making horrendous noises. I've never had a misfire like that before. I pulled over and did a scan, but there were no codes or CEL. So I turned the engine back on and let it buck and roar for a bit until finally a code popped up for Misfire in Cylinder D (4). I swapped the coils from cylinders B and D, cleared the codes and ran the engine again. Sure enough the misfire followed the coil to cylinder B. I got a ride to the nearest Autozone, bought the coil (which comes with a lifetime warranty, btw) and swapped it in.

My original coils have been going out one by one every six months or so. I've replaced 5 now. I should really carry a spare.
