Ok,
So I have a totally useless Cingular/AT&T Motorola V60i TDMA cell phone in my car. In searching around, I found that both Mercedes and BMW have a Bluetooth puck that is the shape of the V60ithat slides right in, allowing a Bluetooth equipped phone to pair with the adapter (theoretically). These modules run $200 to $400. Before I buy one, any thoughts or success stories here?

Quick update -CPT9000 BTUMdoesn't work!

Darn, the car givesa communication error message. CPT does pair with my BB8820 fine, when I try to make a call the nav screen briefly flashes up with the dialing screen then gives a phone error. No audio in or out from thecars microphone or speakers.When you first start the car the phone screen says the phone is off, when you try to turn it on it says communication error.

Why does this have to be so hard????

Change your system to bluetooth. All you need is the bluetooth module. You already have the PSE module in the trunk. Basically, you pull the rear vents out of the center console. You will see the connector there that the phone is plugged into. Unplug it and plug in the bluetooth upgrade module. You can then pair your phone to the car via bluetooth and it will all work just like the motorola one did.

One thing though....you need to download the blackberry bluetooth pairing helper to your blackberry. Then run it to pair the phone.

 

Factorytech. Thanks for the update. I went to the local dealer to see what hey recommend. It seems like the phone interface I have is too old and I need to update the whole module before I can add the bluetooth interface. Can you help me source the latest PSE module?

That is BS.
I have installed many of them. All you need to buy is the Bluetooth upgrade module. The PSE module in the trunk is purely for storing the phonebook etc. The BTUM is for your phone pairing. It takes the place of the Motorola V60 interface. Plugs right into the same connector.
There was someone on here that found the modules cheap. I will see if I can find the post.

 

Thanks for the update. Any information would be useful. I have a copy of the original upgrade procedures from Jaguar (the dealership gave me a copy) and it clearly states that the older units for the V60 need a new PSE,so I do not know what to do! I'd love for it to just be a plau in BT module. The bulletin I have a copy of is dated 05/05, number X-37USA page5.

When upgrading a V60 installation, it is necessary to remove the handset cradle, all other components can remain installed.

Did you have any sucess with the upgrade without changing out the PSE Module.

I have a V60i that is very dated and useless and I am looking to see if this upgrade is an inexpensive avenue.

 

Nope, no success. I priced out a new PSE at $692 and a new BT modular at $212 and then went to frys and got a BT module that plugs into the cigarette lighter with a remote microphone for $50. Shame as if Jaguar had used a regular Motorola phone (i.e. not one with special firmware) then a V551 or such would have plugged straight in. I can confirm this is not the case and the car doesn't find a regular Motorola V-series GSM cell phone plugged into the cradle where the V60i used to be.

Are XJRs prewired for a phone?

 

I think so. Go to the "Manuals" sticky at the top of thie main XJ8 page and download the install manual for the BT.
You can tell by pulling the rear A/C vents and feeling for the connector. Also you should have a connector in the dome light for the microphone. Finally in the trunk you should have space for the PSE in the LHS equipment stack and a connector for the PSE. you will need a new D2B cable from the dealer to hook the PSE into the cars fiber-optic system and finally perhaps a visit to the dealer to get the PSE recognized by the rest of the electronics.

Trunk, behind the LHS cover in the telematics stack.

I can't recall the stack order but from memory the PSE is in the middle of the stack.

Yes. It is a bit of a PIA but not too bad. You need to remove the trunk floor liner first (2 screws at the back anchor points and it slides out). Next is the plastic sill cover, 2 finger screws and 2 posi-drive screws (or it may be four, it's been a while). The clips on the side that mate with the side covers are a PIA and it will feel like you are going to break them. They have a habit of falling off and getting lost in the spare wheel well... Finally you can remove the side cover with 2 or 3 plastic finger screws. Note that the side ocver has a lip that mates with the rear parcel shelf trunk cover. Also be aware that the side cover and rear plastic cover mate with the trunk rubber surround and so you will need to pull that up to get everything in and out. As I said a bit of a PIA, but that seems to be the way on most modern cars.

Maybe pull the stack too?
You might need to remove the stack (3 bolts). If you have good lighting and an inspection mirror you can read the data off the label without removing the stack.

PSE is $600+ and the BT module is $220 so I think this is a good deal....

 

I looked behind the LH trunk panelling and I have no PSE. There is a slot open above the NAV DVD in the stack with holes to bolt in another component and an indentation in the panelling, but I also see no connector there for anything else.

The PSE is on the bottom of the stack, not the top. See link to procedure in my prior post.
I pulled my trunk side panel today and confirmed that I have the old "AC" PSE.
DAMN!

Great news!

Just so I understand this correctly:
- You have a 2004 VDP
- The PSE has a part number ending in "AC"
- YOU added a BT module
- You did NOT add any other modifications
- The BT works as if it is the original V60 phone (with address book, voice commands, ect...)

If this is correct then I'm thrilled and eager to order a BT module!
(and FactoryJaguarTech was right all along!!!)

Can you tell us where you purchased your BT module?
Are there any other details we may need to know as to how you upgraded to BT?
Did you do it yourself?

Also, what version is your navigation DVD?
Does it matter?
(I upgraded to the 2010 version a few days ago and lost all my Memory Points and worse, 3D perspective)
What are the last 6 digits of your VIN? (it may make a difference, I’m not sure)
