You would possibly get more responses if you posted this in the X350 section, since your car is a 2004 XJ8.

That being said let me say this; I too have a 2004 XJ8 and when odd electrical issues occurred, including random wipers and engine shut off, it turned out to be the ground points behind the passenger (rhs) headlights. There is a ground point behind the other headlight too, but on my car it was fine.

This may not be what's causing your particular problem, but if you want to look into it further the link to a good thread addressing this follows:

Hi CTS CUSTOMS,

Welcome to the Jaguar Forums! You've definitey got some weird issues going on. harvest14's suggestion that you clean the ground studs behind the headlamps is definitely worth a try. Please note that the torque specification for the nuts on the ground studs is very low, just 6.5 ft. lbs. Several members have accidentally overtightened the nuts and snapped the threaded studs right off of the body.

Another possibility would be a short due to corrosion in an electrical connector, fuse box or electronic module. You can download the 2004 Electrical Guide here to look for connectors that may be common to the wiper and fog lamp circuits:

Also, when you can, please visit the New Member Area - Intro a MUST - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum and post an introduction so we can learn something about you and your Jaguar and give you a proper welcome.

Cheers,

Don
