Default 1995 XJ6 X330 Problems

I picked up a 1995 XJ6 X330 yesterday. There is plenty of paperwork with it and the service book. The other books are missing, along with the original Green holder for them. What other books should be there?
My XJ8 has, Service record, vehicle care, drivers handbook, audio systems handbook, in car telephone security system, total care, quick guide, sound system, security radio code information. Are the relevant ones, for the X330, still available
A problem I have with it is that the speedo, along with anything else that uses the road speed doesn't work. The odometer shows 101055 and is static at that and all the trip functions show 0.0. All that works on the trip is the Fuel used.

Any one any idea of the cause? As they are all linked to the road speed, is it a single fault causing the problems. I will try my OBD reader this morning to see what it comes up with. Which leads me on to the fault codes, where can I download a list of the codes from??

Codes are 0500 and 0507. I suspect the 0500 might have a bearing on the speedo fault ???

Thanks

Bill W.

Hi Bill,

Welcome to the fabulous X330! No joke... these are relatively easy Jags to live with. They are somewhat "simpler" than the X308.

If you've got code P0500, your Vehicle Speed Sensor is possibly failed. That sensor is in the transmission, and is accessible after you remove the pan. It's at the rear of the underside, covered by the pan. But before you pull it out:

Check the wiring harness at the left side of the transmission for bad wires. Make sure it is relatively clean and is making good contact. In particular, the red wire and the blue wire are the output from the VSS. From the diagram it looks like they might be separately braided. You could also check their connection at the Transmission Control Module under the passenger's dash above the feet. And If you can, try to check the transmission mount for excess movement due to old age. That could possibly put a strain on the wiring harness.

The speedo also uses the left rear ABS sensor. Would you also have an ABS warning?

Hi Richard, Thanks for the reply and advice. I have no lights on the dash at all indicating any problems with the ABS. As I said in my initial post, anything road speed associated in the way of instruments, ie speedo and indicators ie odometer fuel mpg, fuel used etc are reading 0.0. I assume that to get to the sensor means draining the Transmission etc. Does the x330 box have a filter the same as the x308.
Another question.
Are the motors that control the rear seat movement the same as the other seat motors? Some of mine make a noise at the rear but no movement.
Thanks once again Richard

I'd wager the square cable-end has become uncoupled from either the motor or the gearbox it drives, on your sears. But I've no notion what an X330 is and all 3 of my X300 rear seats are fixed-in-place. Nonetheless, I've seen that problem on the adjustable fronts.

The Jaguar X330 is the 4 seat version of the X300 and has adjustable rear seats.

Thanks

I think the X330 is the long wheelbase X300. I didn't think any of them had electric rear seats, but there is a button in the rear for moving the passenger seat forward to give more legroom.

As far as I am aware, the X330 jaguar is the LWB 4 seat version of the XJ6, just as the XJ8 it produced a 5 seat LWB version and also a 4 seat version that has the centre console extending from the front seats all the way to the back of the rear seats. Between the rear seats is a set od switches to control movement of the seats and also they are heated via another switch on the rear seat console. Click on either link below. Thanks Bill.

Cool! Another cupholder for the rear seats! And multiple cubbies! That's a nice setup. I don't think any other active X300 members have a car like that.

I know the service manuals have all the information about the adjustable rear seats and heaters. Electrics, mechanicals, etc. Perhaps you can download them.

Looks like you need to get her on the lift to check the wires and probably change out the speed sensor. There is a transmission filter you will change whilst you're in there too. Easy.

Those X308s (non super) have a "sealed for [short] life" transmission that I hear are a source of endless debate and angst. I suppose they have a "filtered for life" filter in them too. I really don't want to know. Apologies to the X308 owners for that joke. I know it is a sensitive subject....

Hi Richard,

Thanks for the reply. At least with these models you do get a transmission dip stick to enable you to keep an eye on the fluid level.
You mentioned, "from the diagram". Which manual were you looking at. All the manuals I had, I lost along with the last laptop I had when it had a catastrophic failure. I have asked questions on the UK site, but I get better answers from your side of the pond. As I have no ABS lights I will have to investigate the VSS in the transmission. Do you have a Jaguar part number for the VSS in the gearbox?

Thanks

Bill W.

With reference to the speed sensor mentioned. Does anyone have a part number for it. The strange thing is that there are no warning lights coming on at all???

Bill,

I have not been able to find a part number for that VSS in my service manuals. Since it is an internal transmission part, you might have to go to ZF for a replacement. Or, the local Jag shop could take care of it I'm sure. The ZF is fairly common.

For identification: The wires from the VSS at the round connector on the side of the transmission are coloured red with brown stripe (+, Pin F), and blue with brown stripe (-, Pin A). They should be separately wrapped or shrouded from the other wires.

I have all of the factory service data on a Jaguar Heritage CD (JHM1145). It is all PDF scanned data from the paper manuals. It covers all the X300 models. A must have! The Jaguar Classic Parts website shows many diagrams as seen in the service manuals.
Genuine Jaguar Parts and Jaguar Accessories for classic Jaguars from Jaguar Classic Parts UK

Good luck, let us know how you get on, this will be useful information.
