1996 XJ6 sport wiper dead!
 

Hi guys i have a 1996 XJ6 sport and the wiper is dead. I have changed the motor fuses and relays as well as the wiper stalk! It still wont go does anyone have any idea what i can try next?

I am not sure you are on the right list. Your car seems much newer than most here. But, it just might. If it is a Canadian V12!

But, the wipers just might be similar, if not the same. and generically most cars have a similar architecture.

You've done the easies, a good plan. That leaves the motor itself. You will probably need a schematic, a VOM, a jumper wire and possibly a test lamp.

Expose the connector. That might take some doing. Identify the ground tail and the power tail. With the jumper, provide a known good ground and try the wiper. You might just get lucky and find that is the issue. Apply Jaguar Mantra, clean tighten and lubricate.

Leave the ground jump in place as insurance. Then provide 12v to the power tail. If the motor does not respond, it is probably dead internaly. Remove, fix or replace is the remedy in that case.

And/or with the VOM, follow the circuit to detect any break in power delivery. The test lamp can do that as well.

Thanks i have changed the wiper motor and checked for a break in the wire but still nothing!

Ok, assuming that everything is wired correctly, you will need to do some testing with a voltmeter.

The wipers are controlled by the BPM (body processor module) Check that the output on pin 27 of the yellow connector on the BPM changes from 12v to ground when you activate the wipers. If it doesn't, then I would suspect the BPM or the input from the stalk. Have you tried all the wiper speeds and delay wipe? How about the wash?

If the BPM output is correct, check pin 1 of the wiper on/off relay to ensure the signal also changes to ground. If not you have a wiring/connection issue between the two.

If it does check the ouput on pin 3 of the relay switches to 12v and then check that the input on pin 3 of the wiper fast/slow relay also shows 12v when the wipers are on.

If all ok check the output on pins 4 or 5 on the fast slow relay (depending on wiper speed setting). you should have 12v when the wipers are on.

If good, then check the fast slow inputs (pins 5 or 6) on the wiper motor. If you have 12v, ensure that the ground is properly connected (pin 4). If all is ok then the problem must be the motor.
