Default 1997 Vanden Plas Project Car

Below is a link to my 1997 VDP. I have a rebuilt title for it. The adjuster totaled it out because the damage to the fender and scratches to the paint were more than 75% of the NADA book value of the car. I am asking less than the NADA for a car in this condition. You can see the interior, the engine is great for 189000. It is a great car, still drives well, just has this dent in the rear quarter and trunk. This is a project for someone who wants to redo the body or someone who wants to chop it up and resell the parts. Either way, the money is good.

The story about the angel setting me out of the way of the tractor with the root rake is even better. I didn't hit anything, just slid backwards into a ditch and gently coasted to a stop. Head didn't even hit the head rest. The tractor was coming my way in both his and MY lanes. Ever look at a root rake head on?????????????? Sheesh. Missed every mailbox, tree and rock in the way, and there were several.

I'd appreciate it if anyone thinks I am way out of the ballpark letting me know. I am not really sure I want to sell this anyways, but it is just an extra mouth to feed as I have another X300 that is suiting me well.

Big league price for a winter ball prospect who doesn't have a work visa, and would take at least a triple A manager to straighen out the hitch in his swing.

I had to read that twice Andy.....
I agree, way too much, bad title, high miles, and bad damage. Wifes is in fantastic shape, with good mods, and Jag master maintained and worth only about7-8k. Ive seen no damage later models for less needing mechanical work...bad news..someones gonna buy it for that

Well that's what I asked for. The thing is, everything in the car works. I may not be a Jag Certified Mechanic, but I know howIt is not a mechanical mess. I just put new rear shocks, rotors and pads all the way around. The downstream o2 sensors are new too. As I have said, what you have is bodywork only. Someone is bound to know how to do that stuff.

When I went to the NADA site the low ball price included all kinds of mechanical problems along with cosmetic damage. That was even $1700. This car has been well maintained and drives well, just has that bad panel.

What would you think a better price would be??

Brute, you might be right...look how much Wayne Cashman and the Yankees forked over for A-Rod.

Jack,

Buyers are what dictate the price, and if you run some comps from ebay you will get a better idea. Nobody's going to pay for a high miler with bad paper if they expect to resell it after they fix it. And there is no market for XJ6 engines and transmissions, less than none for 180K units. Maybe somebody will screw up and buy it anyway, Bill Buckner is out there somewhere....

the biggest problem is the title, I would make it a Auction. The drive train on these cars are not problematic like JTO said, so that market especially hi mileage is non existant. You might be better to donate and take a right off, or piece it out yourself. But youre facing later model fitment competition too since those where made 3 years and later model stuff bolts up to those years too. If my wife ever damaged her front and rears, I would replace with XJ8 pieces as Ive already done with the headlights

You'd be amazed at what sells on eBay. There seems to be little to no rhyme or reason. I saw one 71 XJ6 that went for under 4k. Id have loved to have it. Then I saw another that someone was asking 35k for same year, but the leather was original. 31k difference? I guess I would like to have seen it in person.Mine may just end up at the local vocational school, or the prison at old Eddyville. Either way they do great body work for nothing. What's the worse that can happen? I end up with two jags.

Doesn't a rebuilt title enable one to get insurance on the vehicle? I know for a fact it does here.
