97 XJ6 Brake pads and rotors

What are the best replacement brake pads for an X300?

I have put over 57,000 kms in the last 4 years and still have about 10% left on the pads. The front rotors are at 27.5mm, with a 26mm minimum, but the rears are down to 18.5mm and minimum is 18mm.

I know that the rear rotors should be changed. Some people say to change all 4 rotors when you do the pads, other say just clean up the fronts if they are still reasonably thick.

I was never entirely happy with the bite of the brakes I have now. Several people say to go with ceramics and Akebono euro spec. Has anyone used these and how good were they? Is EBC Red Stuff better?

What about some no name ceramic pad/ rotor package off EBay?

I was told that Brembo rotors are the best for this car. Should I change all 4 rotors or just the rears? This car is a daily driver in the wet north west.

Any recommendations for pads and rotors?

Kevin,

Just curious if your rears are lock-wired? I've gotta order a pair of pliers and a spool of wire....

I've got pads...can't remember who's just now...but I always go for ceramic if available. I wasn't going to change rotors this time..but in the middle of tire replacement...I'm looking at it and re-thinking that decision.

Found 'em! I have Wagner THermoquiet's awaiting installation:

I am very happy with Akebono pads but you might not like them if you're unhappy with the "bite" of your existing pads. The Akebonos grip fiercly on a hard stop but otherwise have a slightly soft feel.

I don't know what constitutes the "best" brake rotor. Over the years (and three Jags) I've used Brembo, Raybestos, Lucas, Lockheed, Wagner, Napa....they all worked equally well for me.

Cheers

I'm happy with my Akebono pads with generic brand rotors. Before that, I had Jaguar pads and I'm assuming Jaguar rotors. I couldn't find Brembo rotors, so I had given up and bought some of the brand X variety.

Whatever you do, I'd get them online. I found them for loads cheaper.
