ABS Sensor
Hi there,
My left side rear ABS Sensor is broken on my XJR and I’m struggling to find a replacement. I’ve contacted a few breakers who couldn’t get the part out and I’ve looked around on eBay and can’t find the specific one. Not to mention Brit Car wants £217 plus Vat for it. A couple hundred more and I could buy a beat up XJ6! The part number is LNA2223AB. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks. |
There is a reason why good, used rear ABS sensors are so rare in supply - they are a pig to remove from the donor car, and are often broken during removal. Learn how to remove the wheel sensor without breaking it before you decide to acquire a donor car.

Hi. I’m currently looking into replacing my rear hub carriers with the later x300(vin from 801672) or x308 parts so I can use the newer, cheaper and more available abs sensors! As far as I can tell they should be a straight swap with just a bit of wiring to connect the new sensors to the existing loom.
If it works I should be able to change both sides with secondhand parts for less than the cost of 1 new sensor. Marc |
Yes, later editions of the X300 have different ABS wheel sensors. Let us know if your experiment works out.

Hi, I now have a 2001 X308 hub carrier next to my 1996 X300 (X305) for comparison

I have a feeling(might have read it somewhere here) that x308 might have a different ring gear, hence x308 sensor cant be used in an x300 hub, any chance that you could compare them? If they are the same then I cant see any reason why one couldn't fit an x308 sensor in an x300 hub with an extra wiring loom from x308.

Looking at the ring gear they both have the same diameter, tooth count and sit at the same depth in the hub carrier! Also a quick check on jag classic parts they share the same part no. CBC4705

Just read a post on Facebook's Jaguar XJ X300 Group where someone says the rear ABS sensor of Audi A4works a treat and costs GBP20 (obviously aftermarket product). Am waiting for a success story from this forum.

I’ve read the same recently but it appears you still need to change the connector and make a spacer as the body of the sensor is slightly longer on the Audi part..... still a lot easier than changing the hub carriers but as my sub frame sits in the garage awaiting a refurb I’ll slowly muddle on with the experiment, I’ve not seen anything yet that would suggest it won’t work!
I’ve also had confirmation from another owner who replaced the whole sub frame with one from an X308 all he had to do was change the connectors on the sensors and they work on the X300 Marc |
I read somewhere where the direction of wheel rotation and the relationship of the mounting ear makes a difference in working or not
In choosing a substitution a left for a left or maybe left for a right Without the trouble of getting a connector match a waterproof splice or what's called a environmental splice of the 2 wires will let you swap polarities electricaly and solves the problem of pulling the rear seats out The environmental splices are hard to ind but I have a source if you PM me I will mail some to you for free |
Guys, i did it A4 sensor works in x300. You need to use washers as sensor is longer and use the plug from your original sensor. It works perfectly

I think they were talking about an aftermarket ABS sensor (Ref. NTY HCA-AU-002) intended for A4 model year 2000 to 2005. Here is a link to the FB discussion.

The conversation above has been a big relief for me, as I have the same problem (broken ABS sensor in X300). Thanks for that.
Anyhow the last link did not function, so I just would like to ensure, that the NTY HCA-AU-002 is the correct one. |
